It is very well made. MXR doesn't cheap out, even though this is a fairly inexpensive piece.
Sound:
This thing is used by a lot of the best studio workers in their rigs. The sound is legendary, and it's just as good as any boutique compression.

Nice, smooth compression and sustain. A little extra gain on the top of your signal, but it's not distorting at all. I like it because I think it adds a bit more harmonic kick tot he signal.

Simple red metal powder coating, but it's very sharp.
