I bought a pair of EV 12 Zlx-P and they are hands down the best speakers I have purchased for my solo gigs. The crystal clear studio sound is amazing. Not only did my speakers show up in 2 days, but AMS took the time to double box and secure my gear. I thought this was awesome cause slot of other companies I've bought from have had damage on the box and sometimes took weeks to get. I purchased these to use strictly for wedding ceremonies where lots of bass isnt really needed. These are perfect to use for things like that.I used them once for a small party and will never do that again. These definately need a sub to go with them..You push these too hard and they will clip. these are perfect for background music or speeches but will not work for mains without at least one sub. Their perfect for what I use them for and their super light weight

I bought a pair of these at the recommendation of several working musician friends. I needed something very portable that could handle average-sized local venues(indoor/outdoor). The system has more than enough power to easily facilitate the needs of my three-piece blues band. The presets are perfect for quick setup and the controls are readily accessible. The most impressive characteristic of the speaker is the mid and bass ranges, where's all the bass coming from? Additionally, the quality of service provided by AMS is world-class. The speakers arrived a day early and were expertly packaged, resulting in zero damage to the product. Thanks, guys! I would highly recommend this speaker and I would buy it again!

This is a great high quality sounding speaker with versatile inputs and outputs. It's the little things that make me happy. The speakers come with a bolt in the base where they mount on a stand or a subwoofer Pole to secure them to the pole. Some speakers do not come with this bolt which reduces vibration noise.

I am using these mostly as stage monitors. The great thing is they can be used in a variety of ways. I used them as satellite mains for a very big venue and I was shocked at how well they handled being pushed to almost clipping and no issues at all. I would recommend these speakers to anyone.

It’s hard to go wrong with EV equipment and these little beauties really deliver. I have worked with the EKX series and the ZLX are technically a step down because they are a composite case and slightly less wattage, but I have to say they still pack the punch you want AND are lighter and have better handles on them and of course they have the same LCD display that lets you make adjustments and use presets.
My dream system my be EKX with 18” subs but my budget is ZLX with 12” subs and the entire band still sounds great... and I’m still getting EV quality!

The EV speaker has been well known for years with the ability to handle the sound that you are giving them and push it out. I originally didn't think I would like them because they were powered speakers however, I have seen that the powered speakers offer a self-contained system with it's own amp attached.
I have now had these speakers for a few months and they have not failed me one bit. They have met my expectations and more. The details were helpful but if you know anything about EV they are worth every penny.

Awesome powered mains for the price your paying. Awesome built in dsp and crossovers with plenty of power and head room. I ran four of these with four 18” subs for an event that lasted 4 nights I had these things on 0 dB setting and channel input volume at 12 o’clock and they were pretty loud and I was running the Yamaha tf5 mixer and equalized everything in the mixer and never had the main volume no higher than -15 dB and it filled the room with crystal clear sound I ran this setup for 600 people never got any complaints.

My band is using Mackie Thumps and I wanted something more for my solo dates and for my studio (as live room monitors). These DID NOT disappoint. The are some of the most natural sounding PA speakers I have ever owned, although I still have a sweet spot for my old Altec Lansings from the 70's. :)
They are well made, appear very rugged and can be quite loud without distortion. In my studio, I can fill the live room (13x21) with crystal clear, loud playback with the gain at only 30%.
Took my friend's advice and played some of my originals through them and actually heard some nice things I didn't on the mixing monitors or even headphones. Playing my keyboard through them gave a new reality to the acoustic piano sounds.
I compared them to similarly priced JBLs, Mackies and RCF. To my ears, the ZLX12Ps are heads above all three.
I bought the 2 speakers/2 cases/2 stands/2 cords package, and I am quite impressed with these little powerhouses. Can't wait to get out and gig with them.
If you need a wonderful powered speaker, I don't think you go wrong with the EV ZLX12Ps.
Reviews of the other pieces to follow. But before I go, some of the testing I did. I already mentioned the playback and the keyboard, but I also tested out a variety of mics for vocals and instruments though my Behring X32 and was pleasantly surprised again at the strength, character, and clarity of these speakers.

My wife purchased one EV 12' speaker for me for Christmas. I wanted to use them when I perform live so I purchased another one. I used them in conjunction with the 12' subwoofers for an outdoor event and no one could believe that they were on 12's!! Crisp and clear output...I can't wait to use them at my next event in 2wks!!

All EV products are not created equally these days. I have a pair of the 12” version of the ZLX series with covers. The grills bend very easily (I have the factory covers and move them myself and still...) - far too easily for what is designed to be roadworthy gear. Sound is great and performance is solid - as they describe it. I will also say that the power ratings on these EV’s is suspect - not sure what criteria is being used these days but to call these 1000W RMS speakers seems quite the exaggeration. No way. More like 300W performance IMHO. One of the power lights on the grill stopped working a month after I got the cabinet. So - dunno. I use them primarily for stereo keyboard monitors and they get the job done. But be sure you know your mission before deciding on this particular product model. I have other Behringer cabs I bought from AMS which are bulletproof and less money.

The only thing missing is a sub. This system can play your lows but the clarity of the system makes me want the subwoofer so bad. It is better then the muddy JbL Eons and can handle the DJ/ Band game better than Altos entire brand. I run sound for bands and DJ. I am very happy with my upgrade.

I have DJ’d a couple of parties with this speaker and it is way worth the money. If you’re doing a small house party with about 60 people, it is definitely loud enough to get through the whole house. If you’re doing an event such as a wedding, it may be safer to go with 2 of these but this product is definitely well worth the money

I ordered the Electro-Voice 12”’s 2-Way Powered Loudspeakers for small gatherings and more intimate settings. I was hoping to have a very quality sound with a good range of highs, mids and lows. These speakers have been a perfect addition to my setup. So much so, that I haven’t used any other speaker since. They’ve worked in multiple settings. Sometimes I only use one when I’m playijg smaller acoustic gigs. Pristine and crisp highs while never losing the lower end that EV is so popular for. I’ll never look back at other brands again. I come straight out of my Shure Super 55 and my Martin hd28 into a boss VE8 pedal that goes straight into the speak. It works like a beast of an acoustic amp. Buy them. You won’t regret it.

The speaker is great for small to medium sized gigs. Portable, light weight and ideal if you are tired of the heavier gear. The DSP feature is cool for fine tuning the speaker sound, but make sure that you use a subwoofer in larger applications.

These speakers are amazing! Few weeks ago I played an outdoor gig with 2 DJs and everyone including the other DJ was blown away by the sound. Awesome clarity, plenty highs, mids, without distortion. Last Saturday I had a wedding with 150+ quests in a fairly large ballroom. the sound was amazing. You can't ask for a better speaker for an amazing price EV pierced a spot in my heart forever with this EV - ZLX12P 12" powered speaker.

I was looking for smaller speaker to take to gigs instead of lugging 15 inch monitors all the time. I was a bit wary of these, but after doing a gig in a big gym, I was sold. The sound and loudness these speaker produce is very adequate especially paired with some subs. I was impressed and led me to also buy the 15 inch version of these speakers as well. I love how you can manipulate different settings via the lcd screen on the rear. Easy to lug around and place onto speaker stands.

I find them to be very warm, if you're used to mid high cabinets with crowd piercing highs, these are not that. I also find they clip without being all that loud, if you're putting 18" subs under them you may find yourself having to turn the subs down so these can keep up (I have no experience as to what they would sound like with the matched EV 18" sub) I wouldn't recommend them for FOH applications in a live band setting. If you're a DJ looking to do a party of roughly 75 people, I would use a pair of these and a pair of 12" subs to go with them. Anything larger then that I would go up 1 or 2 series and get 18" subs. I think they make great monitors and would be well suited for a solo acoustic show playing your local coffee shop, the mid's in these are smooth and crisp. Overall a great product when used in the proper manner. I've had a pair for going on 3 years now.

I had the ELX 12 inch for 2 years. They are at the top of the food chain. I loved them!! But someone broke into my storage unit and took them!! Ok, so I replaced them with these ZLX and yes they certainly are EV they sound clear, crisp and very clear but im getting tired of that LIMIT sign. So what I recommend is anytime your going to DJ for more than 50-60 people use a sub. Ok, I know I downgraded but as soon as I can im going to sell these and purchase the ELX or EKX. p.s never downgrade

Awesome sound. I get excited every time I have a gig so I can hear my speakers. Wayyy easier to transport because they are much lighter. Love the hand grips. Since buying them (making payments 1 more payment left) I have used them 3 times and have 3 events this Valentines weekend. I need new mics, I was thinking Shure but maybe the EV's might be good. Very small footprint, easy to carry, and nice clean sound. I ordered the pair with matching EV covers. Looks great and sounds great. I am running the speakers directly out of my QSC Touch Mix 16 Ch mixer. Very easy setup compared to my passive PA system. Power cables were included but I also bought a pair of 30' power cables so I can be a little more flexible with speaker placement. We are using the speakers for a 5pc band (live sound). Our next move is to replace our passive subwoofer with an EV powered sub. Looking forward to that.
The only negative I have so far is that the speakers mount on my existing speaker stands rather snug, so you might need an extra hand trying to take them off the stands. Shipping was fast. Always great service from AMS!

I bought these to use as floor monitors. I set them up and while I have the EV 15s. I just wanted to entertain the thought of using the 12s with the 18 subs I bought from here. They sounded great and allow you to set them up any way you choose. The full range is awesome and they sound great alone as well. I did notice that they were not as full on the bottom end as the 15s, but they hold their own and will not disappoint. the handles and setup make this a snap. Each speaker has three inputs 1/8 stereo for an IPOD or other external music player, two XLR-1/4" jacks for other devices, a one XLR-1/4" pass through for other monitors or Subs. These are so light you will actually smile when you lift one.

I got this speaker thinking it is 1000 watts took it to band practice wasn't loud enough to get over the drummer so I turned up the master vol to full and the mic to full and it just barely got over the drummer. Come to find out when I read the manual its really rated @ 250 watts RMS and 1000 watts peak. It does not have a 1000 watt amp after all. Be careful because brands such as JUB state its 1500 watts and only has a 500 watt amp in it. Very disappointed to find this out. Research before you buy powered speakers.

Picked up a couple of these to amplify a small band via a digital mixer in small/medium clubs up to 200 persons.
Is very clear and dynamic. Easily portable. Great bottom end (especially with subs). Finding easiest on amplifiers crossed over @ about 130 Hz. Will handle lower frequencies with ease however and would not worry about using them alone in if necessary due to small room size.
Very attractive/professional looking. Not overly worried about anything other than they cannot be stacked vertically due to form factor.
DSP makes it ridiculously easy for others to manipulate and set up. Have run the system to 110 DB without distortion or clipping (with subs in use crossed over @ 100 hz).
Well worth the investment – While not quite as dynamic as the QSC “K”Series they easily make up for themselves in versatility and price-point. An excellent value

Great Speakers

I wanted good quality powered speakers for small to medium venues that wouldn't break the bank or my back. These speakers are about half the cost of the competition, and they look and sound great! I also bought a ZXA1-Sub to use with them that gives me 2700 watts of PUNCH that fits in the back seat of a car!
The quality seems very good and the enclosures are very sturdy. Nothing cheap about these speakers.
Easy set up and easy to use. The DSP menu is super easy to navigate and very intuitive.
1000 watts of class D power in a 12" speaker gets the job done for me. I also like the fact that you can tailor the frequency response of the speaker to your application in several different ways, which make these speakers really flexible and useful.
They sound great and you can tweak them to your taste. I recommend the ZXA1-Sub to use with them as it really rounds out the bottom end for a BIG sound in a small package.

I'm in the process of upgrading my production company's gear and these EV's were exactly what I needed. The extra features (as opposed to what is offered by other mfgs) such as inputs, built in EQ and price point made this the perfect speaker.
Seems to be solid!
Plug and play. Was able to follow the manual to easily dial in sound.
Seems to be an all around perfect package.
Was pleasantly surprised by tonal quality. Even being a 12" woofer, this has some serious bass to it. The mids are clear and the highs are crisp. Will work well as a monitor or mains for small to mid size venues w/o the need of a sub.

I tried numerous powered speakers before I purchased the EV's. They win by a mile... These are 12" speakers, so a subwoofer is highly recommended if you want the thump. That aside, they have a deep rich warm sound. Treble is clear and they capture vocals very well. AS a DJ I play all types of music and the EV's roll with every change.
With the optional cover you have a great mobile setup that is easy to pack and go.
So far, so good. Great design that is very effective. Not a lot of excess plastic and cabinet to brag about that serves no function.
Easy to use, good documentation.
Onboard LCD and DSP are a great feature not seen on other powered speakers.
Would love to see wireless audio / bluetooth on these for a truly nimble mobile experience.
Far better than any speaker I compared in this price range. Accurate, warm and plenty of headroom.

Very clear sound, the bass is not as pronounced due to the cabinet size being compact and made of composite materials instead of wood. This is true of ALL composite cabinets. Bass is still very good.
Build quality is very good. Everything is flush and tight fitting and professional looking.
These speakers are very easy to use. The DSP is easy to navigate. 2 xlr-1/4 and 1/8 inputs give you nice options.
The EV sound is the best feature of this product. I wanted a great sound and I got it.
The sound is EV all the way. I knew with EV I would be happy, even at the lower cost vs competitors in the same performance level. These speakers have excellent clarity at a very high volume. I am very pleased. These speakers compare to the QSC K12 speakers. Both sound excellent, but the ZLX 12s cost much less. If anyone says these speakers do not sound good, they are wrong. The sound is professional quality. The expectations should be for professional sounding 12" pa speakers. 12" ZLX pa speakers will not fill a stadium with sound, but WILL do the job intended for them.

i decided on powered monitors after ive had enough spending approx 1200 for a pair of monitors/amp...
ive read many reviews on these, but it didnt hit me until i got to use these at a gig. WOW. i cannot say enough: very light, easy set up, sound great (even with a little guitar through them). i plan on using them for my dj gig as well. by them selves, bass response is decent for these little cabs
i was iffy on build material but these are just as good (or better) than any wooden box in its price range. very clear, EV quality here.
as mentioned above... VERY easy to use.
i will start by how amazing it is to carry these! im a whimp, my JBL JRX125 cabs make me strain at only 95+? lbs. ill carry one each hand and not even flinch. this makes it easy to set up and tear down (doesnt make you tired!) if youve watched vids on how great the handles are, theyre no joke! works like a charm! nice design! Next, use the DSP to set what youre using it for. vox for speech? fine. vox for monitor? fine. you want heavy bass for club? fine. its all there. adjust treble and bass gain, overall gain, gain on ch1 and ch2... apply power, a source of sound (mic, ipod, ect) and youre there....
everything. compact size, power, versatility, handles, dsp
if need be, theres great bass response with a little eq. still recommended with subs but if you dont have any, its still great.
for monitor, even better. vox are real clear. a great anti-feedback monitor!

These are interesting speakers.. I was skeptical at the price and with the spec's quoting A lower db output than my QSC K10's, I was a tad worried.. I currently use a set of EVX118P's for subs and a set of QSC K10's for the tops for my fronts.. This has worked well but when I an add a drummer to our duo (to make a trio), we definitely needed some monitors so I wanted to purchase 2 more powered speakers.. When I saw the Dent and Scratch pricing, I went for these and have been very pleased.. IN fact, They sound good enough to be used for fronts.. I put them on the poles and they match my EV Subs nicely.. I now use the K10's for monitors when we have a the drummer sit in
It seems to be well made.. They definitely don't seem as nice as my QSC speakers and not even quite as nice as the EVX series.. The knobs feel ok but seem less expensive.. Overall though, considering the price, I don't think you can complain.. Time will tell..
The push button dial knob is easy to use.. Scrolling through the menu is a breeze.. OTher than that, the DB level for speaker output is a little bit different than a dial with 0 to 10 on it..
The digital processing is nice.. It seems to have limiting built in and it seems to work..
Sound is good.. I did notice that I needed to increase my low mid on my EQ a bit (I was cutting more with the QSC) but they sound pretty good.

They look great, they are loud, clear, light, easy to carry...get the bags...the digital EQ and volume, etc, is great, and actually does something...
Looks extremely well made...solid feel, rubber carry handles are tops!
Only complaint is the 1/4 inch inputs on the multi plug crackle and have a terrible hum...

These speakers are incredible for the price! I used to use Mackie SRM450s for my main speakers. The older Italian made ones not the Chinese ones. These EV speakers are lighter in weight, easier to handle, have more options and sound so much better and smoother than the Mackies.
They seem very well made. The finish is good and there are no rattles at high volume. I've only had them for a couple weeks but they have been great so far.
These are very easy to use. I didn't even need the manual to set them up. The DSP menu tells you everything.
I love the 2 inputs on each speaker and the DSP menu. The 1/8 inch input is also great for plugging in an iPod or iPhone to play music while you tear down the rest of the system after a gig.
The sound is great. We play as a 5 piece cover band with 3 vocalists and these speakers have more than enough sound for our gigs. We use them by themselves for indoor gigs and we add a Mackie sub when we play outside. You just can't believe how good they sound for how little they cost. EV has always had great sounding speakers and these are no exception.

The first day I got them, I hooked one up to my ipod, and I was amazed at the sound I got from just the one!
Very well made, and very dependable!
The new EV-ZLX12P was very easy to use right out of the box! All I did was play around with the controls, and I was off and running!
The best feature is the new LCD display and unique single-knob DSP control with presets to give you the best performance possible!
If I could not see the speaker when being used, I could not tell if it was a ZLX15P or ZLX12P because it sounds so good, even at a high volume!

I've been looking for something to go with my POD HD400 to play live and for practice. I love the way the POD sounds when I record and play through my studio monitors and I want to take that same sound to the practice room and the stage. After much research I decided on the ZLX12P. After I got it I was very happy with the results and immediately got a second so I can go with all my stereo patches live as well. I have a Marshall 100w half stack and just one of these can keep up with it and both will blow it out of the water! These things crank! Plus my acoustic guitars sound incredible through them!
Seem very well made but only time will tell.
Super easy to use! I also have a set of DAW outputs going to them so I don't have to use my monitors when I just jam through the DAW.
The class D amp is a killer design and the DSP is a must for use with an amp modeler.
The tone is almost like an OVER SIZED pair of studio monitors. Very clean with full a frequency response. Oh yeah, very LOUD too!

This is a great speaker. Getting to hear many different speakers I prefer this one. These are great speakers for the price and nothing can touch them at this price range.
This is a very dependable speaker and can take the beating that traveling will give them. If you want to keep them looking good get covers for these.
plug and play. If you are just needing a top speaker for something small just plug in turn up the volume and rock out. Settings are the easiest with the DSP LCD on the back of the speaker could have never been more pleased with the ease of use that EV has implemented into these wonderfully crafted speakers.
the LCD menu is the greatest. It makes setting up the speaker a breeze. NO MORE DIPSWITCHES!!!! I never will be able to go back to dipswitch powered speakers again this is the greatest thing EV ever done.
AMAZING. Like even outscreams the Bose system. These things can do events of 1000 easy. Just pair these with a sub.

I've been a DJ / Sound Engineer since 1990 and by far the best investment I've made this year. Prior to getting the ZLX 12P I bought the Behringer 1000w 15" powered speakers and they couldn't come close to these.
The quality is excellent and very light. Easy on my back after a long night.
The ZLX12p I found it very easy to use. I'm the type of person that tries things 1st and read after if I get stuck (I think the manual is stillin the box - lol).
I like the LED light and the option to turn it off, use it as a clip/ limit light. I also like that it has a seprate input for a ipod.
I've play at a party on the 4th for 1 of my regular customers and even they notice how loud and clean they sound

Overall, another home run on the EV powered speakers. Unbeatable at the price.
I've been running a full EV powered front line for well over a year without so much as a hiccup. It's safe to assume that this pair will be much the same.
I'm using these as monitors and the setup and use is pretty idiot proof. The DSP is simple, intuitive, and actually useful given the built in curves for selected use.
Apart from the sound, these speakers are simple and wonderfully portable. The DSP is very good. Overall, the speakers are very light, the handles are perfect, and the build is excellent and rugged.
If you haven't heard the EV powered speakers yet, do yourself a favor and take a test drive. The sound is pristine - sparkling highs, full crisp mids, and solid (but not boomy) lows. I couldn't be happier with the sound.

I purchased 4 of these but 1 of them has a buzzing sound because of the LED wire vibrating against the speaker cone. Other than that, they sound absolutely wonderful!!

These speakers are fantastic as monitors. I'm not sure I would try to use them as mains with drums and bass guitar in the mix, not without a sub anyway. They are very clean and LOUD for vocals though.
They seem well made with good fit and finish. Feel solid. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is the wires running to the LED's are too long and were vibrating against the speaker cones. Not a big deal to fix, but that seems like a pretty silly oversight for EV and it's a known issue to anyone who's watched reviews on Youtube.
Operation couldn't be simpler - read the manual. Set your VU meters below unity, then turn up the master - a little at a time! Having on-board EQ is nice as well. When placed on the floor as a monitor, though, you kind of have to stand on your head or roll them forward to see the display.
Sheer power from a box this size and weight is very impressive. They're clean and clear.
Very natural, not honky or muddy at all. And that's with EQ flat on both the speakers and the mixer

I was simple blown away! I received the ZLX12P speakers yesterday 5/16/13 first thing 5/17/13 I djed a elm school gig in a medium sized gym and the speakers kicked A$$!! With major sound production and clear lows and highs for such a compact speaker!! I will buy another set soon!! DJ C Style KC MO.
