I received my Korina V a few days ago and I was amazed at the quality of it after unboxing.
This is my first Flying V (after 30 years of playing), but I already purchased the Korina Explorer and the Korina Moderne, so this helped complete the collection.
The playability and the tone are killer. And this is probably the most resonate guitar I've ever owned.
If these ever come back in stock, and if you've ever considered a unique Flying V, these are worth every penny!

I am so glad to see the 58 flying v back; they were getting tough to find used at a reasonable price and I've been looking for about 20 years in Western NY and Canada! The first new one I got was damaged in shipping but American Musical replaced it and it plays and sounds incredible. Alnico V pickups are perfect; action is perfect; worth every penny.

Other than the color being more caramel than natural, its amazing. The playability is outstanding. The pickups aren't the best but who really expected them to be. Would have been nice to get the CTS pots but for the price point it is very impressive. The frets were even and level. The beauty of this V should not be understated.

The guitar seems to be well made with no flaws. It looks great and was already setup fairly nicely. The pickups aren't great but not bad. I would say at this point it's about 75% as good as some of the Gibson Flying V's I've played, but at only 25% of the cost of a Gibson a better value. We'll see how it holds up over time. That will be the real test.

Wow! I saw pleasantly surprised when I saw the fit and finish of this guitar. Very impressed with build quality! Finish is slick, without blemishes. Neck straight, frets aren’t sharp. The tuners are solid. The neck joint is different than what I expected as its one smooth transition rather than the bump and ridge I usually see due to the body and joint being different thickness. Overall, the build quality of this V is some of the best I’ve seen on any instrument I’ve owned. Guitar feels and plays nice and smooth, body is very resonant. The alnico classic pickup (not the classic pro’s as far as i can tell) sound a little muddy, especially the neck pickup. Not sure if that due to the pickup or the pots/caps. Otherwise I’d give it 5 stars. Really though, I can’t see how Gibson can charge so much, when epiphone builds guitars like this. Just add some Burst-Buckers and save $1000.00 or more.

I didn’t know what to expect when I made the purchase on this guitar, if anything it was going to be a cool wall piece. I have been purchasing many guitars for the look to put on my studio wall. I can’t put it down, it plays so easy and the tone is just right. It’s got depth and the tone knob does the job, just roll it back a hair and it’s the sweet spot for southern rock to country. Stays in tune and is light. For the price it’s a win.

First off....I know there will be trolls that don't agree with me but, for only $599 you'll get the closest thing to a Gibson possible. I received my 1958 Epiphone flying V a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. It was virtually flawless. The only thing I did was put on strings of my choice(ernie ball 9's).I tried to find something negative to write about the guitar but honestly I couldn't find anything wrong.Do yourself a favor and buy one.... This new addition to the 1958 Korina wood flying V is a very close example of the original Gibson Heritage Flying V that I bought back in 1983.That guitar had a black pickguard , tobacco pickup selector , and black input jack .The kluson tuners are correct. It is made with real Korina wood .This new flying v sounds and plays like my Gibson , Epiphone has come a long way since their early 2000 model that was not real.

Money well worth the guitar I’m a big epiphone guy maybe bias but I’m never disappointed by them or ams. I will say generally most experienced players will immediately set a new guitar up to their specs but for a beginner or intermediate level player that might not be so nit picky I highly suggest having your guitar setup by someone or taking your time with proper tools to set it up to your needs because 9/10 it’s not setup for YOU and instead of walking away thinking the guitar sucks, give yr axe a fair shot and have an experienced tech set it up for you

When I say I wasn’t expecting this, I meant quality-wise. When I unboxed the guitar, I was surprised by how well the guitar was finished and the attention to detail, especially for the price. When I plugged it in to the amplifier, I wasn’t disappointed at all. The pickups sounded full and airy, not at all what you’d expect on a guitar at this price. The balance between the two pickups was impressive, also. The controls were smooth and everything felt solid. I would recommend buying one of these limited editions while they are still available.

Well, I wanted to like this guitar. First day I got it I didn't really get to check it all out. Looks awesome, plugged in, played a few licks then set it down. The next day as I'm looking down at the bridge I notice that the bridge pins are bent forward! I thought it was just an optical deal, then I picked it up and looked toward the other pin and it was bent forward! They were even, like when they had put the guitar together and was setting intonation they ran out of travel and just bent the pins toward the headstock! Then I got to looking at the gold cover over the string through body and it was off at least a quarter of an inch! Going forward like the pins! So what it looked like was the jig to drill the holes for the throughbody and the bridge was not set right! AMS took care of me. I sent them pics and they sent me an rma. These guys are awesome. Sent it back and got an Epi SG. Very appreciative of how they took care of it. Thanks AMS.(This was back in February)

I just got this beauty the other day! I love it and I have twenty five guitars all the big name brands and this plays and sounds and looks awesome! I can only buy a couple high priced guitars each year but Epiphone makes it so tempting to just buy and buy at this price! Don't be scared that their made in China, the quality control is great! Yes they use a pleck and C and c machines that eliminate human error! I had to take about ten minutes to set up the action and with new strings I'm happy! Just as mentioned by others there is a high fret buzz on the "A" string fifth fret! I found this to be true on the Epiphone 58 korina flying V and the 58 korina explorer as well in the same place! But no worries I always do a mill and dress and polish on most of my guitars with this problem! And the 58 explorer I just got is great as well! My friends tell me I should replace the pick ups, but after they play them both they dig them as I do! The Gibson models are over priced and the quality control is not up to snuff! The pick ups are too muddy and there is tuning problems with the Grover machine heads which are made in China and are junk! Don'y know why they put them on a high end Gibson? I talked to Joe W. of the Eagles at Performance Guitar and he does the same thing to his guitars by replacing the machine heads with Gotoh tuners They just go right on! No new holes or buggering up the head stock! Trust me you'll be happy and worry free of tuning problems too!In short I love both the 58 flying V and 58 explorer and plan on getting the Epiphone 58 moderne as well to complete the collection! As far as AMS they are great no problems and prompt delivery too! They have a great and friendly staff that you can talk turkey with not just parts pushers! I ordered it on a Monday and received the guitar on Wend. at noon! I hope this review helps you guys and feel free to pull the trigger on this one as it's in everybody's price range! Keep on playing and loving music especially the guitar! My best, John F.

Replacing my Gibson Heritage V

Product Review
I had sold my Gibson Heritage V along with 5 other guitars, amps and outdoor p.a., to finance moving 1200 plus miles. Wife wanted to moved back home. 3 years later, she divorces me and runs off with a karaoke D.J. LOL I missed that Flying V and happened to go on AMS website to look at their Flying V's. I had owned a Black Epiphone Flying V as well and remembered that it played just a well as my Gibson, sorry my opinion folks. I also had checked the local music store here priced at $900 and I would have to deal with all the financing scrutiny. Well, AMS made it possible to purchase this Flying V on payments. The guitar plays great and sounds great. Once I pay this one off, I'll purchase the Epi Explorer, I had also sold my Gibson E2 Explorer. 6 months later, I finally took the guitar out to an open mic and it kicked ass. Hell, after I was finished doing my shtick, some metal head keep telling me, "I love your guitar man". I replied back and said "she loves me too". I got $2200 for my Gibson, 6 years ago. I am happy to have replaced it with the Epi. Would I ever buy another Heritage? Dollar for dollar, the Gibson is over priced and over rated.

I've had this flying v for about two weeks now and overall I'm very happy with it. I will say that when I received it I noticed a small crack in the finish, and a small dent on the neck, and in all honestly it could use a basic set up. But it sounds great, and is beautiful to look at. I am very impressed with this guitar especially for the price. The playablility is smooth and I love the sustain that you get from the through body tailpiece. I have this strung with 9s and I can bend them strings as far up as they can go without fretting out or choking. there is a bit of fret buzz unplugged but once again it could use a setup. I just wanted a nice classic V that sounds good and feels good and this has done it for me.

Great Guitar, Very Well Constructed, Very Good Sound.

Product Review
I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of reviews before I purchased this guitar. There were several reviews on youtube that said it was not a Korina Body because it has a veneer top and back. It is a Full Korina Body. The body is 3 piece Korina with Korina veneer on top and back. The neck is also Korina with a Pau Ferro finger board. Just as advertised. It has Great Sustain and Sound. The Body and Neck are Very Well Constructed, with a Great Finish.
Cons, It does have a couple of slightly high frets, but is very playable with no buzz as is. I will be doing a fret job so I can lower the action a little more like my Strats. The action is probably about right for most, but I like mine lower.
I have wanted a 58 Reissue Korina Flying V since I was a teenager in the early 80's. I am very happy I purchased this one. It is a Great Guitar, especially for only $600.00.. It plays as well as the $2,000.00 Gibson Les Pauls I have played in the local stores.
I am also very happy dealing with American Musical. I contacted them several times and they were very courteous and helpful answering my questions and trough the sales and shipping process. I placed my order on a Monday afternoon and received it Thursday Morning. I will be buying more from them in the future.

Finish is beautiful, it’s super lightweight, wears comfortably, has buttloads of sustain. HOWEVER- the string spacing is so narrow, it’s even narrower than the pickup polepiece layout!! At the top of the neck, it’s so narrow one can hardly do the classic wraparound thumb F#/D chord! So get new hardware and a nut right away. Pickups that don’t sound like a fridge magnet wrapped in a down comforter would be a good idea as well. Not to mention the switch is entirely too easy to hit by mistake mid-strum.
This is the first Epiphone I’ve owned since my first guitar- a G-310 20 years ago. I swear on my life, IT’S THE EXACT SAME NECK PROFILE. Seriously, it has the curvature of a guitar costing 1/3 what it does. I do like a fatter neck on a guitar, but I honestly expected a Flying V neck to be borderline too thin for my liking.
Don’t get me wrong, i love it and I’m keeping it, but I’m not playing a single gig with it without some serious mods. If you want a solid base to customize, go for it.

This is one of the better made Epiphones I have played. One piece neck, similar to an ABR bridge, and a 3 piece body that has one complete wing and the other is 2 piece. I oiled board and put 10s on it which made the guitar feel better to me. I have many expensive Gibsons and have to say for this price point this is a well made guitar. I will be changing out electronics for there is bleeding when volume is off on other pickup. Overall not a bad guitar at all. Mine arrived with a minor finish flaw but I do not expect perfect at price point. I am satisfied with my purchase.

This is a really nice guitar. I have 2 gibsons,2 custom guitars and many other high quality guitars. This was my first epiphone. I got because I've always liked these korina Vs but couldn't afford a gibson korina V. Not too many I know can.
I am very happy with this. It feels nice, plays nice and looks fantastic. Pups sound surprisingly nice, just not very hot. I might put a set of Shaws in that I have lying around. I have played a few epiphones before as a few friends have em but I like this much better than any I have played before. It doesn't have high quality hardware but I figured that before I bought it but with a little upgrading it will be great.
The monthly payment made it a no brainer to me. VERY HAPPY WITH THE GUITAR AND AMS.

If your reading this and on the fence and there are any more available, you need to get your hands on this thing NOW.
I just got it for $549 and its AMAZING, the thing just howls, fit and finish are good, frets are good, setup is good, mine had a few slight imperfections, a little excess glue in the neck joint and a slight grain imperfection on the back.
I think the pickups sound great. the hardware is good, little bit of a wobbly selector but I can deal with that. the tone is just outstanding! I have a gibson les paul custom and it has a completely different sound, which is what I was hoping for.
The 58 neck is great. chunky and feels great in the hand.
All in all, if your thinking about it and have the scratch, you need this in your collection.

Plays great out of the box, well-made, sounds as I expected. Made in China. Light weight & comfortable to play. Neck profile is fairly thick, like my old SG Special. The body is made of separate slabs for the wings and top & bottom caps for the faces, the visible grain looks good. I bought this model because it's configured like the original 1958 Gibson V - small pickguard, light-stained Korina wood, gold hardware, strings-thru-body. Gibson is making a number of V models, some look very nice but none of them look as good as the 58 style to be honest. The truth is a guitar like this is sold on looks. Couldn't beat this one for the price. I know Epiphone's quality can be hit or miss but this one is a hit. We'll see how the gold finished hardware holds up. One knob damaged in shipping, waiting for a replacement, that's why 4 out of 5 stars. The Epiphone V-shaped case DID NOT fit, the treble-side tuners were jammed into the padding.

I bought mine last Christmas, so he's been out to play a few times. I call him Mac (after Lonnie). Mac is boisterous, not easy to handle, i.e. an ergonomic nightmare (although nicely lighter than most Vs). That said, I can't keep my hands off him. Unlike my gorgeous $$$$ Custom Strat, he doesn't play nice. He begs you to punch him and play hard. And he looks so good, you're willing to do anything to make him sing. The fretboard real-estate is daunting by design, a bottomless pit. This is a damn good guitar with character, bite and flash.
One of my favorite boys OXO

I bought a scratch & dent/return model. So I was definitely putting my faith in AMS' hands. Well, the guitar came today and I am more than pleased! It's perfect! Not a single flaw. Even had all the plastic still covering the pick guard, pickups, bridge, jack plate and truss rod cover! All case candy included, etc. Tuned it up and it plays flawlessly! What a sweet ax for the money!

This guitar is as close as you are going to get to playing a 1958 Flying V. It is also about 3 to 4000,000 cheaper. Or about 7000.00 less than a custom shop model. I bought a Epi Flying V about 20+ years ago and was not impressed at all. Lousy P/Us, cheap hardware ect. Epiphone has really improved in the last decade. IMHO

Considering the minimal packaging, it's a wonder it arrived in one piece. But it did and, aside from a couple of cosmetic blemishes, is a wonderful guitar. Just over 6 lbs, decent action right out of the (battered cardboard) box, beefy, authoritative sound, resonant body. And it should be said that if you want a guitar that actually looks like an original Flying V, and you don't want to spend 5 grand, this is the only way to go. This is my fourth crafted in China Epiphone, and I can't really overstate what a great value they are.

I am really impressed with this V. The pickups sound very close to some vintage Shaw Humbuckers I have in another V so I'll keep em. The only issue I found is that the high E string groove in the nut is cut just a wee bit too deep causing it to buzz slightly (open), that's an easy fix. I would have gave it a five star rating but the nut issue gets it a four. It really is a beautiful guitar that plays great with super low action, it's neck is a little chunkier than some of my Gibson V's but still plays fast. It's a great value, I would buy another one. Oh........get the case!

1st off horrible packing job by American Musical. 1st one came with a broken neck. 1 piece of packing paper inside the box so it bounced around and poked through the inner box. Returned got a replacement same packing job same result but this time only one small little crack at the nut. Amazingly not more damage because the inner box was not taped shut and the guitar was lose on arrival. I should have returned but did not. Fretting out on the g string 12th fret after lowering the action to Gibson specs. Explains high action. Lucky for me I have some skills and leveled/recrowned the frets in a few areas. Now its great. Pickups not real hot but still sound good. I replaced bridge pickup so now its better for me. Nut might need replacing as well. Maybe bad luck on the ones I received. I did get the explorer version too and its night and day from the V. 3 stars because its a V but you also get what you pay for and the price did match the product quality.

I like the finish, playability and sound of this guitar but...
The first day I had it, the high E string popped out of the nut a couple times. I think the design of the headstock has a more severe outside string angle than most guitars, and I will get a proper nut cut for it at a local luthier.
I thought that the action was ok out of the box, but I changed strings and changed the action a bit. As I adjusted the intonation, one of the adjustment screws broke where there is a ring around it to keep the screw from moving inside the bridge. Obviously made of cheap metal. I turned the screw maybe 2 turns! I went to a local store and got a new gold bridge for 15 bucks. Now it works great. Then I started noticing other problems.
They didn't clean out the metal debris on the backside of the fancy V tailpiece after they drilled holes for the strings. The hole drilled into the pick guard where the bridge post goes was off a little bit, but not really noticeable unless staring right at it.

This Guitar is a beast!!! She looks and sounds Fantastic, big fat bottom end with Sustain that seems to last forever. The only con about this Guitar is one that haunts every Flying V ever made. And that is the strap lock locations. I can't find the answer and neither can any company that ever made a V or similar Guitar. I also own her sister the Explorer. And she's as mean as the V. love this guitar and she has found a home for as long as the good Lord lets me walk the Earth. Get yours like yesterday. Don't wait and miss out on the best Flying V I've ever had in my hands.

Product Review
This model looks great and brings to mind the classic lines of Gibson's first Flying V's in 1958. The amber, black and gold colors just scream classiness. Unfortunately, the unit I received had a 1" crack in the finish extending from the bass-side nut to the back of the neck, a gouge in the lower right wing and a half dozen places on the body and headstock where the guitar touched a textured surface before the top coats were dry. The neck exhibited a different relief for the bass and treble side of the neck which resulted in buzzing with the thinner strings when adjusted for proper action on the thicker strings. It was returned and I hope to write a very positive review for the replacement guitar that American Musical is so graciously sending.

Love the looks and feel of this guitar. Have only had limited time with it so far but everything is as expected. Action is pretty good out of the box and no sharp fret ends or buzzing. Fit and finish seem good enough, though you can tell the difference between this vs. a US made guitar. But for the price, this one is great. Will definitely keep this guitar for a long time.

I like this guitar a lot, but there are some finish flaws and a very small crack in the clear coat on the bass side of the neck where the nut is installed which kinda worries me. As long as it does not migrate I'm ok with this and I can buff out the finish flaws. It appears to have korina veneer on the top and back. Not sure what's in the middle, but it sounds good and looks great and after I set it up right. It plays well also. I would recommend this guitar to any one looking for a V.

Epiphone really did a fantastic job on their new '58 V! Fit and finish are superb and the set-up was great out of the box. The pups are pretty decent vintage paf style humbuckers and sound really good. Unfortunately I'm not able to keep it as I have small hands and the neck is on the large side, but if it weren't for the size of the neck I'd definitely keep it! If you've ever wanted a great V with a chunky neck this one is for you!

I've been playing for 30 years and I've owned a lot of guitars. I have a fairly broad experience base from which I could pen a great comparative review, listing the high points of the guitar but really, when I put this guitar on, it made me giggle like a little girl and let me rock out with all the abandon of a 13 year old rock star. It's just a fun guitar. The pickups could be a little clearer, but heck they sounded good enough. I'd say they were cleaner sounding than a MIM strat if that helps anyone. The fit and finish were perfect. The fret ends smooth. The guitar is LIGHT. But mostly, it begs to played. I'll probably switch the pickups at some point...maybe not. I love it and I'd buy another. (arrived two days early too... way to go AMS!)

I own about a dozen epi's of various ages and have changed out the pickups in most of them. Not this one though. The sound was really amazing. Not muddy or mushy, and very high output. Simply the best pickups I've gotten on an epi in general. For the rest, fit and finish appears good, but I've had this for 1 hour.

I have a MIK Epi Korina '58 Flying V and Explorer '58's that I bought when they originally were introduced in 1998, I still play them regularly to this day. I am glad Epiphone has "reintroduced" them. The Explorer is one of the most ergonomically (user friendly) designs out there. For all its "quirky" looks, it balances great and sustains "for weeka" ! If you are thinking of purchasing one , now is the time to "pull that trigger" and get on the pre-order list!

You cant get better quality for this price. Played right out of the box. These now come with teh upgraded Grover tuning keys, so the going out of tune problem is no more.
Very reliable. Plays everytime I plug it in.
Your general opinion of this product.
I always wanted a Flying V. But always would shy away because of the awkward look. I like to sit a play a lot. So that seemed to be a problem. Not so friends. There are various ways to sit and play the beautiful guitar. I prefer to lodge the inside of the "V" against my right inner thigh. It really gives you balance and control. So overall, I love it. About all I can say.
Neck is like butter. A little fatter than some, but you really can't tell it when playing it. The frets are so smooth when you run across them, its unbelievable this guitar is so inexpensive.
And as I stated, sitting or standing, once you find your position, it just feels right.
This is an area I wasnt sure about at first. When I first played it, I thought, "gonna need some upgraded pups here". But after applying my favorite strings, and breaking them in a bit, as well as setting my tones up, it sounds as good as any Gibson product. All a matter of tastes I guess. I prefer running the neck and bridge pickup together for best results. But any config can be made to work.
This is what caught my eye off the bat. I just love it. The Korina wood is simply beautiful. A good hard finish that just shines. Looks durable and will probably take a hit or two without damage. Although thats never a goal we wish to test.
Action was good out of the box. Pretty darn close to the way I like my guitars. Low and fast!

It plays great. Goes out of tune a little more than my Epiphone LP Standard.
It is weighted very nicely. Doesnt sag like the older gibson flying v's or SG's.
thick or thin, nothing really in between. Fixed that with some Duncan 55 PAF sh1 (neck) and a pearly gates PG1 in the bridge.
flawless, even after UPS had its paws on it.
it was a little high for my prefence.

'58 Epiphone Korina V - Surprisingly Good!
By: AMS Customer from USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
This guitar is extremely well made, superb attention to fit and finish. Fretboard and frets are perfect with no buzzes anywhere. Mine is one of the newer ones with gold Grover tuners that DO stay in tune well, unlike the earlier versions with the 'tulip' style tuning keys. Pickups on newer version are redesigned also, and much hotter, wax-dipped so they do not squeal at high volumes like ther earlier Epi Vs did. Just a whole lot of guitar for not a lot of money.
FEATURES:
Best features are about tone. Warm and smooth at low volumes, and singing woody sustain when cranked (I use Marshall amps). I also love the fact there are no buzzes on the fretboard and no false harmonics which one might otherwise expect from a less-than-high-end instrument. Only think I would change (and did) is replacing the crappy factory jack with a high-quality Switchcraft because crackling tends to be a problem with Epi '58 V's after a few months of use. But th
