I bought the d/s item and I am still looking for any issues at all. AMS owns my business...if they got it and I need it, I am buying from them.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
As others have stated heavy neck, but not overwhelming, shows quality in build
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
FANTASTIC! Would be proud to play onstage!

Perfect... Flawless!
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
It is still brand new, but I expect that it will hold up as well as one of my vintage Gibbys... (This is my daughter's first electric...)

Perfect!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
It's kind of funny, but it plays as well as my '96 LP and my original '76 Explorer... Very surprising for an import.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The tone was not quite as good as my Gibsons, but for the money, it was exceptional!
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Probably as good as one of my far more expensive Gibsons... Let's just say that I was quire impressed!
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Good, but I still gave it a setup...

very well made - the epi was made in China, the strat was made in Made in Mexico - you do the math
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
only had it a couple a months - so far so good
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
I didn't realize how good my epi SG was till I bought a standard Made in Mexico Stratocaster. There is no comparision. The epi beats the standard strat hands down. The epi feels and plays like a real guitar. The MIM strat feel cheap. I could go on. Suffice it to say, I took the strat back.
If you are in the market for a great guitar at a steal, buy an epi SG 400. The money you save from not buying a strat you can use to buy a good amp.

It's a great guitar. It doesn't feel like I bought it for 300 bucks. It feels like I spent a grand on it.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Considering it's been dropped on tile floors, bleachers (High School Marching Band), risers, etc. and on the neck/headstock, where it should've broken, without breaking at all, Id give it 5 stars. I did have it plugged in with a straight cable while going through a tight doorway and.....it started to pull a hole in the front, but that's my fault.

Your general opinion of this product.
Looks good, sounds GREAT! I have put this guitar through various forms of hell in the time I've owned it and it's still in one piece! Very fun to play, I use Dunlop strings 10's, LOW action, very smooth.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
I put speed knobs on 'cos I prfer their feel to bell knobs. The neck is fast, very good for lead playing, and the frets aren't too small or enormous. All SG's are a little neck heavy, this is barely noticeable on here.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The pickups weren't original when I bought this one, they were Epiphone Les Paul neck pickups, both of 'em. The guitar screamed with a Duncan JB, now it's got a DiMarzio PAF (probably old...maybe 80's) and it's a little brighter but still screams.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Good. Not exactly the Cherry on a Gibson, but close enough. I want to refinish it black anyway.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Purchased used. It was pretty good when I got it.

For the price, it's a very well made axe. Has some problems staying in tune after light leads and bending...but seems to get better over time.
Reliability

A decent axe for the price, but keep in mind...it is an epiphone
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
It feels great, like a real SG. Light weight. Ultra access to higher frets. controls are typical SG.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Very bright, SG-ish sound. Pick-ups are smooth sounding, but low output compared to better pups. I replaced the bridge with a tone zone pup from DiMarzio....neck pup sounds nice.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
the paint job looks good, but after first hour of playing this guitar, my finger tips were black from coating coming of the fretboard.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
great set up...for my style of play anyhow.

Great ax, action was set very high on mine major adjustment should fix the problem... Great price...
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Guitar is nice and thin like most SG's... Thick neck again like it is suppose to be, It comes with cheap strings, just change them right out of the box then decide if you like it or not... Pots are a little rough just need to be worked a little...
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
This guitar is more on the thick blues side of sound or rock. Go easy on the overdrive, great clean tone.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The paint looks great, it is very black not the grey color like the picture shows.
Action

Not so great very high almost 1/2 inch off of the board I had to take it to a repair shop...

I got this guitar for my daughter for her "starter" guitar and couldn't be happier. I've always been a strat man and never played an SG. If this is the copy, I can't imagine what a Gibson would be like. Great guitar overall. Really easy to play and sounds great.

Fast and easy to play.
