Great guitar well worth the cost.

What is your overall opinion of this product?
This is by far the best MIM Fender guitar I have ever played and I have owned many over the past 20 years.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
I was surprised at the overall quality. The feel of the neck, the finish, and most of all the tone. With the combination of the full range pickup at the neck and the single coil in the bridge position along with the ability to blend them both the tone combinations are endless. It can go from that signiture rock tone like that of the Stones to the preverbial country twang with the turn of a knob.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
After owning and playing many a MIM Fender, I was surpised to find how comfortable the neck feels. Not as thin as my strat deluxe but very smooth and fast compared to the many others I have.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
This is where this model really stands alone. Each pickup has it's own volume and tone control and can be blended to acheive quite a large variety of signiture tones from rock to country and just about anything in between.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The first thing I do after unboxing a guitar purchase sight unseen is take the first 15 minutes to examine the axe from strap button to headstock. The finish on this one was flawless. The walnut stain was consistant without any blotching or dark spots. The clear poly finish is after all "poly", but I cannot find one flaw.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
In a day and age where many products we purchase are overpriced and poorly built, I can say that this Fender Tele is definately a bargin. You'd be hardpressed to find another guitar in this price range with the playability and tone this one has. Best value in a purchase I made all year.
How was the action out of the box?
As with most axes shipped halfway across the country, this one needed a setup. I like a very straight neck with fast, low action. Out of the box the neck had some relief and the action was a little too high although a friend of mine played it and felt it was to his liking just the way it was. It came with 9's and I prefer 10's so after pluging it in to check the electronics I spent 30 minutes doing a string change and a setup to get it to my liking.
