Best Bass Fender Had Made in 60 Years!
By: Doctor Wholittle from Texas
What is your overall opinion of this product?
I was dubious when I saw the new "D" Bass, thinking it to be Fender's decades-late attempt to compete with Daddy Leo's children from his next two marriages, so to speak. Having played the Deluxe and American Deluxe models, I can safely say that Fender isn't merely competing with Music Man and G&L - they're playing to WIN. I've played both of the other basses over the years, and the Dimension bass is a standout in its own right. It offers as many, if not more, tonal varieties and is made better than any Fender I've played in decades. For the first time in way too long, a Fender bass is worth its MSRP.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Everything is well-made and assembled, nothing loose or out of place. The design is as classic as the Jazz our Precision basses.
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
The layout of the controls is well thought out and ready to access. The tonal varieties makes this bass a heavy hitter.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The weight of the Deluxe and American Deluxe is good; they've got heft without being heavy or unwieldy. The neck plays like a dream!
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The selection of tones go from classic to modern and just about everything in between. I can't imagine needing to play a different bsss throughout a night unless you needed a fretless or an upright.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish on these models is simple, yet beautiful.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I normally wouldn't pay this much for three basses, but I have to admit that for the first time in my career, a Fender bass is worth the asking price.
How was the action out of the box?
This played like a dream right off the track. No intonation issues and the action was like buttah.
