| First thing I did was take off the pickgaurd and inspect the wiring and pots. I was impressed with the quality of the work done. It was as good as any of my American made products as well as my own work. Nice job to the Fender plant in Mexico. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. I actually expected to redo it, but there was no need. | | Features:
| The fretboard had exceptional rosewood on it. Smooth and high quality. The quality and choice of wood makes all the difference on a fretless bass, and I was impressed with this one. | | Sound:
| This was the most surprising features of this bass. The first mod I usually make to a MIM fender product is to replace ALL of the electronics starting with the pickups. I didn't have to do that with this bass. It sounded deep, rich and full right from the factory. The tonal range is very impressive and can be adjusted with a quick turn of a knob. | | Playability and Feel:
| This is a Fender J-Bass, which is medium-heavy. However, the J-Bass body is designed to distribute the weight effectively, and it does. There is a reason the Jazz and Precision basses are the most widely used. The neck was classic J-Bass - smooth, thin, and comfortable. It makes for very smooth slides and transitions. | | Tone:
| The tone is exceptional for a product in this price range. As I said before, I normally swap out pickups first thing, but not with this guy. It sounded deep and rich right out of the box. | | Finish:
| The finish was spot on. However, this is a MIM product, so it is a poly finish (not nitro). If that is a problem, you will have spend the extra $600-$800 if you want an American made. For me, this was not an issue. | | Action:
| The action was quite good out of the box. I adjusted it slightly, but that was due to preference, not because it was off. All of my Fender basses have had a good setup when I received them. | | Date submitted:
