General What is your overall opinion of this product? I haven't owned a Squier product since my second guitar 23 years ago and since then, unfortunately, Squier has been synonymous with that of GMC products from the 90's, just about worthless. That being said, I didn't have very high expectations when purchasing this as a backup and as something with a tremolo; but, due to the cost, J. Mascis is an idol, and the other reviews, I decided to go for it.... And boy was I happy I did!! Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? The quality far exceeded my expectations. This is constructed just as well as any MIM Fender, if not better! The paint is unblemished and the frets are trimmed perfectly (no need to file any down). The only problem I had, right of the box, was the 3 way toggle was a bit loose and was popping when switching pickups. I fiddled around with it for awhile and fixed that problem. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The feel of this guitar is great. My main guitar is a Bonamassa Les Paul and I love the thickness of that neck. This one is a bit thinner of course, but still has decent girth to it. The controls seem fine. The tremolo is great and the guitar stays in tune really well. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? The tone is awesome on this!! There are so many tones you can create with it. The pickups are surprisingly hot (J. Mascis did oversee the creation of them), almost as hot as the burstbuckers in my Les Paul. The bridge pickup is nice and bright, both pickups together are surprisingly thick and a bit dark, and the neck pickup is almost in between the two other settings. When using the slider, the tone gets really jazzy and smooth, almost compressed sounding. I totally dig the sound! Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The paint looks fine to me. I personally like the gold and aged white look. The satin neck is also a nice touch! Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? I think the value of this guitar is way under! I would expect to pay the MSRP of around $600 or more for this. It's built really well and seeing how I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on an American made J. Mascis Jazzmaster, this is a great backup that will probably be used for more than just that. Playability How was the action out of the box? Action was good out of the box. I like my action a little high and this was just about right. I installed a set of heavier strings (it comes with 10s, I use 11s) and it handled it very well. I thought I would have to adjust the action, but nope!!
Squier is stepping up their game with their vintage series!

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? From what I can see and feel, and having owned and played other squier instruments, this guitar is very sturdy. Take off the Squier logo and I could've been fooled into thinking it was a Fender model. That said, the tuning pegs were not to my taste, but that is nit-picking. General Your general opinion of this product. As I stated, take off the Squier logo and you could fool me that this was a Fender standard Jazzmaster. The finish and J. Mascis' specs make this a phenomenal buy. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The tone is another astonishing value you get for the guitar. Everything from the surf-rock sound that made the Jazzmaster famous to Telecaster like tone that leaves the player with varying sounds at their hands and one versatile guitar.. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The finish on the guitar is what first attracted me to it. I was in the market for a Jazzmaster and once I did the research on how the guitar came together and the components it had, the finish was just icing on the cake.
Better than you would imagine!

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The guitar has very nice dressed frets that you would expect from a much higher dollar guitar, the action is decent and the overall tone of the guitar is above average. The guitar has a wide range of sounds and I have yeat to try somthing with it that doesn't sound good. Most guitars of this price range are soley beginner guitars or intermediate. This guitar is totally giggable and stays in tune very well. General Your general opinion of this product. I like it so well I have considered purchacing a second just to have in case. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The overall tone of this guitar is excellant and as said above exceeds all of my expectations of a guitar with this price tag. You could easily put another zero on it because it plays like a thousand dollar guitar. The pickups have a variety of great tones ranging from jazzy to full on punk rock. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The finnish on this guitar is splended and the pick guard is a nice option (gold anodized aluminum)!!!!
