Product Rating Product Review Bass was shipped almost still in tune. The active electronics let you get the best of both Jazz and Precision worlds! Great all around bass, then smaller Jazz neck is so fluid and smooth playing.

Product Review I think that the cost/product ratio is well in the favor of the buyer, and is a far better bass than you'd expect for the money. COLOR-I had the option of any color I wanted, as long as it was BLACK. The blue on Fender's website isn't an option at AMS right now. :( SET-UP: This bass was set up very nicely out of the box. I can play nearly effortlessly with no rattles or buzzes. NECK: I have short fingers and the smooth, great feeling Jazz neck was a major attraction for me. Frets: The frets are very nicely done. No sharp edges. Good attention to detail. TUNING: This bass is very stable. Tune it now, still in tune tomorrow. SOUND: It's active, so you get that great tone, and with P&J pickups, and a 3 band EQ: you can shape whatever sound you like. GREAT BASS!

Mexican Precision Deluxe

I have only recently acquired this bass but seems ok at and I am enjoying getting to know her! I could not justify paying a lot more for USA model as there appeared to be no differences to warrant extra cost. Fender quality can vary wherever manufactured. This bass just adds dimensions of sound that are very useful. You can greatly vary your sound without having to change instruments on stage or transport other basses - useful on airplane travel. Good tones available but with basses a lot depends on your amplification - if your rig is poor then the sound will also be poor. Don't spend thousands on a guitar and then buy cheap amplification. Maybe not the fastest but does the job. My '69 Jazz is very fast but I was not looking for that (I play with "Uriah Heep Legends" so I am looking for good heavy sound, which this provides. Good neck - standard Precision is a little wide for me. Controls take a bit of getting used to as other Fender basses have minimum controls, but they are easy enough to get to. Good bottom end sound - not as much tone or volume on higher notes but, again, I am still getting used to this instrument. Cannot fault the finish - it was actually better than some USA models I tried. Pretty good but any we all have our preferences and it is no big deal to set the bass up to your requirements.

Awesome bass

good quality however needs to be professionally set up when you get it factory settings really suck. the pickups are amazing you can get any tone from this bass, i would recommend replacing the factory nut with a bone nut and having a pro set it up for you. other than that its pretty cool. best tone ever. can get a variety of different tones its awesome. once you fix the action the neck is real fast to play. the bass is extremely versatile its fun to play. the bass can be bright and snappy to dark and smooth. the pickups are amazing can achieve a nice vintage 70s sound or a modern rock sound its amazing. flawless finish it has a cool vintage look very sexy. the action was lousy out of the box, it is a fender but mexican made has lousy quality control. the factory nut was worthless i replaced it with a bone nut ($40) after that it plays like a dream its amazing.

Have owned for two years now - amazing bass!

No quality issues whatsoever. Very well constructed, very durable. The bass is Mexican-made with US electronics, and everything has functioned exactly as it should since the day I bought it. Again, what more could you want? A J-Bass neck (great action) on the P-Bass body (classic looks). Pick-ups for both with the ability to blend between the two for any kind of sound, whether you shred, play the blues, classic rock, jazz, it can handle it all. I'm a sucker for 24 frets, and although this bass has the standard 22, I really can't complain. I pair mine up with a Marshall MB4210 for light gigging and an SWR WorkingPro 12 for rehearsals, and I couldn't ask for anything more. It gets great punch with very nice lows, not boomy at all. The highs are bright, and the overall sound doesn't feel muddy at all. It's not a super-fast bass, but it definitely doesn't feel like playing a 2x4. It sits well, is a hint on the heavy side (but not bad at all compared to a lot of basses), is comfortable to play and wear. If you use a floor stand (as opposed to a neck hanger) the tone nobs can turn a bit when you put it in, so keep an eye out for that. The finish was absolutely flawless. The wood grain on the maple neck was particularly beautiful - I could hang this bass on my wall as a work of art. Out of the box, the action was not bad, but I still had mine set up to a medium-low, elixir strings.

This Bass plays great and sounds even better. Even with the E.Q. set flat, the sound is great. Active electronics are choice on this instrument. The sound is fully sculptable. The tone is good all around. I can play virtually any style. The Jazz neck makes this instrument incredibly fast. All controls are easy to get to and highly effective. Poppy and hot. A lot of volume coming out of this P Bass. The finish was almost perfect. There is one tiny blotch up by the neck, hardly noticeable. The action was actually amazing, right out of the box.

Want a P-Bass fix but don't want to pay big bucks?

The quality of this bass is really solid. I have a couple other American P-Basses and recently purchased the American Jazz Bass Deluxe V. I have found that the the overall quality on this bass was a good value compared to the $1300.00 plus I paid for other Fender rigs. The vintage finish is what caught my eye and it stands up to the American made Fenders I own very well. Your general opinion of this product. I am pleased with the quality of this bass for the money. It does fall a bit short when compared to my other basses, but they cost 2-3 times more than this rig. That being said, it plays well and the ability to vary the sound and play different styles of music is great. There is very little difference from the new American Jazz Deluxe Active V controls and this made it easy to get the sound I wanted without too much hunting around. A good value for the price. Playability is good, neck plays fast and bass has great bright and bottom end depending on what you want-rock, slap, jazz, etc. The neck has a soft feel that provides good access for moving around the fretboard without too much effort. Controls are accessable and easy to use once you understand the layout. I am pleased with the product and the vintage look is really cool too. Like the other active Fender basses, this bass has ability to get all sorts of different tonal variations. Pickups put out good levels and allow you to get a warm smooth tone or a good slap brightness. I already mentioned the vintage finish caught my eye, but it truly has a really cool finish quality. No visual issues upon close examination and it looks great. Action out of the box was pretty good. No issues with set-up other than minor bridge/pickup adjustment and just tuned and played. I was pleased with the set-up when I got it. Compared to other basses I've purchased where major adjustments were needed to make it right,I had to do very little on this rig.

One Top Notch Bass

This Bass is one very nice guitar. I've played and owned American Fenders which were several times the price, and this one is right up there with them in both sound and playability. Your general opinion of this product. The bass arrived double boxed, and inside a fender gig bag. I am very happy with this purchase. It has the Fender Precision Body and the Fender Jazz Neck. I consider this a wonderful combination. Very few guitars arrive all set up and ready to play. In fact I would say in the 16 years I have been a guitar tech I have seen only a handful. I was pleasantly surprised to find the neck to be perfectly straight and all the frets even. With both a Precision and a Jazz pickup, you basically have both basses for the price of one. To make it better, instead of a 3 way toggle switch for the pickups, there is a pan switch. This is great as it allows infinite percentage choices of the two pickups instead of one or the other or both pickups. This allows for tonal variations unlike any bass I have seen. It's a poly finish, so don't expect to look deep into the finish. I bought the Blizzard Pearl with Maple fretboard. It is a beauty and I get a lot of compliments on both the appearance and sound. The action is set nice and low and plays very well.

Mine is put together very well,it's very sturdy, and is likely to be around for a very long time. Your general opinion of this product. It's my first Fender bass and I could'nt have made a better choice. It's not heavy, very comfortable to play, the neck is faster than I thought it would be. It exceeded all my expectations. Nicely contured body, the neck is like butter. The frets are set nicely, I have the strings set rather low and there's no buzzin' at all Wonderful range of tone can be made to sound smooth as silk, punch your lights out and all points inbetween ans still able to slap it silly The chrome red is gleemin' the gold pickguard goes well with it although maybe black would really make it pop. The neck needed a minor adjustment, which isn't a big deal if you know how. Other than that...perfection.

Best of both worlds...

By: AMS Customer from USA      Submitted: 2/5/2008

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
For the money, an excellent bass. quality of woodworking is very good. Parts fit well. If there's a downside, it's slightly inferior hardware, but hardware can be upgraded. I replaced the stock Fender bridge immediately with a Badass II. As far as I'm concerned, that's a must-have upgrade. I also replaced the gold plastic (yes, plastic - not gold anodized metal) pickguard with a very cool pearlized white one. Changed the look completely for the better in my opinion.

FEATURES:
The best features of the bass are the hybrid Jazz neck and Precision body, and the hybrid P-bass neck pickup and Jazz bridge pickup. It's truly the best of both worlds in the Fender arena.

EASE OF USE:
The active eq worked well, but I replaced the electronics and pickups with EMG passive ones. I like to eq my rig, not my bass. Keep it simple.

VALUE:
I love this bass. You caould pay a lot more, but this is a very good quality instrument.
