P is for Priest!
Quality:
THE NECK!!! it is where it all the quality in a bass has to be. This bass has it in spades.
Features:
Amazing for a straight to gig, no set up bass. I love the lack of features! No pointless EQ's no stupid balancing acts between pick ups. Just plug in, tune up and rock out!
Sound:
Once again I was blown away. I really only thought that they bass would be good for light rock, WRONG this thing can do anything! Two nights later I played it at a Hard core metal show and again was blown away by how easy the transition was to make.
Playability and Feel:
Broken in right out of the box. No fret wire snags and nothing but the round shape of your hand feel you have come to depend on. The SINGLE pick up is much stronger then many muti pickup basses I have played in years!
Tone:
The tone brews ups from this bass like good coffee. Dark robust and enough over the top highs to be perfect. The Bass was made to be paired with an Ampeg SVT head and 8 10 cab. It's the sound of American Music Mussel You can play anything on this bass.
Finish:
I bought the sunburst with the rosewood neck just because I thought it would look nice... When I opened the box I was BLOWN away buy how nice it really was! Glossy and perfectly painted, no flaws what so ever!
Action:
I bought this bass because of a need to have something for when I sit in for some other bands. It now replaced my trade mark Thunderbird, with my now trademark P. Smooth and low just like it should be. I un-boxed this bass and took it straight to a show. Drop tuned it to D flat, and it didn't bump, or hiccup once!

Fender American Standard - Charcoal Frost Metallic & Maple Neck
Quality:
The bass is solid and very well made, across all aspects. Overall, the bass is a decent weight (around 8.5lbs), the electronics have no problems at all.
Features:
The P-Bass is a simple creature, which has helped with its longevity. If you're looking for a lot of knobs and switches, you're looking at the wrong bass. I'm loving the bridge & stringthrough on the bass. The only things I'd add to the current line is a larger selection of colors and better factory strings.
Sound:
Fender Precision Bass all the way. Even before dialing my personal preferences in and adjusting the pickup height, I knew this was a bass that I'd never have to modify, barring electronic failure.
Playability and Feel:
The overall feeling of the bass for me is great. The neck is a bit chunkier than what I'm used to, but it's growing on me. I need to change the strings out though, I'm not particularly loving the Fender stock strings.
Tone:
It can growl, no problems with mud. As I said above, I do want to change out the strings, they're a little bright for my tastes.
Finish:
The Charcoal Frost Metallic is definitely my favorite color out of the current run offered by Fender. The finish was beautiful. I did replace the standard white-black-white pickguard and it is now even more stunning. I was disappointed though as there were some large chips around some of the pickguard screw holes (but small enough to be covered 100% by the guard itself.) The maple fretboard is so glossy, it can be almost blinding.
Action:
The bass was quite playable out of the box, but as with about all basses, needed tweaking to get to my personal preference.

Fender American Precision Bass
Quality:
The quality of this bass guitar is truly first-rate, as one would hope to expect for an American made product. If the Fender Custom Shop has even higher standards than this superb Fender American Precision Bass, then I simply cannot imagine how, seeing how pristine this bass is.
Features:
As other reviewers have stated--this classic P Bass is a "no-frills" bass, capable of amazing tone and diversity. Volume and Tone controls. Period. Perhaps a thumb rest closer to the bridge would be nice from the factory, but resting one's thumb on the pickup or the E string works well, too. And one can always add an aftermarket rest.
Sound:
The tone is a stark contrast to my Fender "Geddy Lee" Jazz Bass, which to me is the perfect compliment, and was exactly what I was looking for. Perhaps the pickups are of even higher quality than the "Geddy Lee" as the sound is truly "money."
Playability and Feel:
This bass feels considerably lighter than my Fender "Geddy Lee" Jazz Bass. The neck on my sample was nearly perfect, with no fret buzz. The bass feels solid, and is very comfortable, making it very pleasing to play.
Tone:
I believe this bass will sound great on any setup, regardless of price (I use an Ampeg BA115 combo-amp, which is probably entry level). The pickups (passive) do seem a little "hotter" than the "Geddy Lee" but this could just be a false perception.
Finish:
The quality of the finish on this bass was truly second to none! The clear coat has been buffed to perfection, with no "orange peel" or swirl marks. Incredible depth and shine. Superior to that of my Japanese "Geddy Lee" Jazz Bass, which already held high-marks!
Action:
One should never expect a bass to be setup to perfection to ones own personal preferences and style, and this bass was no exception. Having said that, my sample out of the box was very smooth, and required very little adjustment. While this neck is wider at the nut, and with a thicker neck than my Fender "Geddy Lee" Jazz Bass, it is incredibly fast, and so liquid-smooth!

This Is The Bass You Hear In Your Head
Quality:
This is my 4th bass and it is far superior to the (good) 2007 Fender MIM P bass. I had no idea there was that much difference in just the pro feel of the new MIA Fender P. It wasn't cheap but it was more than worth it. Nicely done Fender.
Features:
Love the heavier bridge and truss rods. The overall weight feels about 1-2 pounds lighter than the MIM. The sound is deep, clean and pure. The pickup looks about the same as the MIM but sounds much better. Through-the-body Fender 9050M strings make a difference as well.
Sound:
This is the sound you hear in your head when you think of the P bass and all the big hits. A ton of bass players on tour still play the P and for good reason. I think James Jamerson would love the new American P.
Playability and Feel:
Well balanced. You can play gospel in church a long time without getting tired. It feels like quality in every way. It's probably the last bass I will ever buy. Not to overstate the case but it is just fine in every way.
Tone:
Not a lot of variation but enough. VERY quiet even with treble up all the way. Pickup has good output, warm and smooth. Low E is really there. Fat when you want it and very nice midrange for the quieter stuff. I play through a Hartke 4x10 with a Hartke 15 and Hartke amp.
Finish:
Beautiful. Great fit. Not a mark anywhere. The resale on this bass will very good if I ever wanted to sell it, which I won't.
Action:
Fast and smooth. No setup really needed. No buzz. No dead spots. No sharp edges. Deep gloss maple fretboard. Perfect neck size and STRAIGHT. May not even need a luthier on this. Intonation seems right on.
