The Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 is a good budget interface option for those just starting out with their home recording studio.
It is the best audio interface under $500. It has plenty of options for input/output and is designed for easy and convenient control to help you produce like a pro.
While the proprietary Focusrite control software leaves much to be desired, it is easy to just “plug and play” with this audio interface through your DAW. In this audio interface review, we go over some of the major features of the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and demonstrate how it works.

I have the Focusrite 2i4 and needed more inputs. I tried to add a mixer but the quality was not as good. Bought the Focusrtie 18i20 and so glad I did. The quality is amazing. I am even more glad that I bought it from American Music Supply. They had the best price and 2 day shipping. Really happy with this purchase!

The Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 is the best USB interface I have used to date!!! Even though its not Firewire or Thunderbolt, it still delivers peak performance with little to no hassle, unlike other USB interfaces!!! This product is certainly worth the investment!

Very easy,logical set up, excellent sound quality, with extremely low latency issues. Routing options are practical and abundant.controls are easily adjustable to whatever you are recording or mixing. I would not hesitate to recommend this interface to anyone shopping in this price range.

Super easy to set up and use. Vocal tracking came out super good using sm7b with the 48v phantom power engaged. I would recommend anyone looking to record cleaner di tracks to give this sum serious thought

We bought this from AMS to expand our studio, we're now able to record drums wich is a huge plus for us. We have the 2 port scarlet which was great for vocals, bass, and guitar, but now with 8 inputs, and the portability to be able to take this and record live shows as well is very cool. I would definitely recommend those for any studio.

Couldn't believe the quality of this for such a little amount. Simple and easy setup that took only minutes. I feel like a studio level producer every time I switch this thing on. Some say that it'd be nice to have dedicated 48V power for each input but this helps keep the price down.

Must have got a lemon, No I/O's, headphone jacks had no signal. Inputs would register on LED but not on my DAW. I tried all kind of scenarios that the driver offers to no avail.

Not at all happy with this. The first one I got 1st gen didn't work so I had to send it back. Focusrite upgraded the replacement unit (2nd gen) for free. My problem, and I see I'm not alone, the unit will not change sample rate no matter what I do it will stay on 44.1, if I try to to change it to 96 to match my DAW and pc settings it will continue to revert back or my DAW will crash. I have searched online and support forums and found many with the same issue but no one seems to have an answer. I also find that the Focus Control software does nothing I attempt to get it despite reading their user guide and watching youtube videos. I'm now looking to buy another product that will work as I intend it to. I don't want to discourage anyone from purchasing this product but I think it is only fair to give an honest opinion of my personal experience, this is how I decide on buying an item and rely heavily on reviews for my decision making so this is why I am compelled to write this review. This is an excellent audio interface. Plenty of power and clarity especially when connected to a pair of KRK studio monitors. And in my opinion it rates up there with Universal Audio but at a much lower price. Perfect for film, tv and game scoring home studios

I was skeptical about this interface although focusrite makes great studio gear, I had in mind getting the presonus, but am glad I went with the Scarlett 18i20 second generation. The sound of the preamps are superb, the software is easy to work with , and the IPhone app works so well with the interface software, I was controlling the volume and mix from my phone, it's awesome. Using the Scarlett with Logic Pro x was a freeze and my recording sound of high quality even with no plugins. I recommended it .

Right out the box, into the rack. If you're thinking about purchasing one of these bad boys, make sure you understand the routing procedures. Anyway have fun.
