A great looking Explorer that can go from Freebird to Metallica and stop anywhere in between. The Burstbucker pickups were a great choice for this guitar - powerful and versatile. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Great balance standing or sitting. The neck is slim enough for faster runs but substantial enough to dig in for big bends. Standard control layout for an Explorer so no problems there. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Smooth neck pickup tone - same for the bridge but it has a nice snap to it. Both pickups balance very well. With the right pedals and amp EQ, it will take you wherever you want to go, bluesy or brutal. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Silverburst looks great, body binding is a great accent that I think should be on all Explorers. Action How was the action out of the box? No buzzing or dead spots anywhere on the neck. The intonation on mine was very close to dead-on and the action was just right - not too high or too low, but you should always be prepared to do a set-up to make it play right for you.
