What is your overall opinion of this product?
I've owned many guitars in my lifetime and this has to be the best Gibson "Standard" model I've ever played. It's the Firebird we all know and love but the tuners have been updated and the neck has been modified to improve "feel." The tuners are now quipped with effortless Steinberger locking tuners which hold excellent tune. This is especially wonderful if you intend to replace the fixed bridge with a vibrola or bigsby tremolo.
For the tone, the Firebird is exactly what it looks like. A cross between practical Fender design and Gibson tone. What's different however is that the traditional body-through mahogany wood has been mixed with 9-ply walnut; giving it more tonal characteristics. In my initial jam session with this instrument, I found myself switching from Albert King to Mike Bloomfield to Buddy Guy in an instant. Thanks to the mini-humbuckers, you can get some single coil characteristics with a simple twist of the guitar's volume and tone settings. Wonderful.
