Amazing value and guitar

What is your overall opinion of this product?
This is an amazing guitar and has quickly become my #1. It is a very musical instrument, inspiring me to write and play all sorts of new things. I love getting to know this instrument, and I look forward to keeping it for life.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
The quality is first-rate. I am very impressed with what comes out of Nashville these days. The lower end Les Pauls are very playable and are a decided step up above high end Epiphones. I dabbled in high end Epiphones for a while, but even the lowest end Gibson Les Pauls, such as the LPJs and decade Tributes feel much better constructed.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The feel is smooth and chunky, in the 50s neck profile that I prefer. I like having something to grab on to. The controls are in classic Les Paul configuration - no complaints there.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The tone is snappy without being ice-picky, and with the "bounce" that good P90s have. The tone is very responsive - clean at light pick attack, gritty at hard pick attack - but I think I'll swap out the P90s for noiseless ones because of hum from the dirty electricity in my home. Note that like many modern Gibsons, this guitar's electronics come in a printed circuit board (PCB) instead of with traditional soldered connections. Thus, if one wants to swap out pickups to non-"Quick Connect" ones, one has to swap out all the electronics also.
How did the stain or paint job look?
Gibson's trademark nitro finishes are great, and this ebony one is no exception. Smooth and classic-feeling, just what I look for in a Gibson
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
This was a tremendous value at the year-end blow-out price of $599. I am not sure I would buy it at the normal retail price. At $599, if I had the money, I would buy one of these in each color. This is a guitar one keeps for life.
How was the action out of the box?
The action out of the box was great. Maybe a little high for folks, but I like my action high, because then I have more control over vibrato. The feel was very buttery with the stock 10-46 strings, thought I think I'll switch in 10.5-48 strings for slightly beefier feel and tone.
