What is your overall opinion of this product?
It is a snarling cabrone. I bought the most expensive model with the Gold Top and Mini Tune. Only a gig bag came with it, at that expensive price. The manufacture should re-consider that issue. This is a keeper and should have a OHSC.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
It is built like a tank. There is little doubt I could play batter-up with it, and pity the ball. It is a rock guitar. You could play blues or jazz with it but why take your boy to ballet?
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
It is heavy and chunky. You are going to feel the neck on your lower fingers. Playing it is like tying to strangle a cat. It is easy to turn every dial to 10.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The tone is hot and nasty. Really what I was looking for. Thick. Sounds great on the all-tube amps I normally use. Im going to keep it on heavy strings.
How did the stain or paint job look?
It needed a high gloss gold top and ebony neck instead of rosewood. The walnut brown back, sides and neck has been a long-time favorite of mine. It should have been better.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Not really. It should have come with a hard-shell case (which I did buy separately). The Mini-tune made up for some of the expense, but I have found the same guitar (in orange sunburst with cream p-90's and HSC) on line for 500 less. So that is what Black P-90s, a Gold paint top and the mini-tune cost.
How was the action out of the box?
It plays beautifully. I bought 5 high quality guitars from AMS in 2013 alone and have never had an issue that couldn't be resolve with no more than the turn of a screw or nut.
