General Your general opinion of this product. I am a Martin enthusiast so I was skeptical about going with any other brand. I know Gibson, but when you are spending real $ on a quality guitar, it is hard to change your preferences. What caught my eye about this model was not only is it a classic J45; but with Koa back and sides, a Honeyburst Top, gold Grover tuners, it is a Custom Shop model and LIMITED TO JUST 75 MADE! Gibson, you now have my attention! So after a month and a half of looking at videos and doing research, I HAD to own this model. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? This product is EXTREMELY well made and the attention to detail is flawless. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The neck feels great and man does this guitar sound wonderful! I was blown away. I was expecting, well frankly...to be disappointed because it wasn't a Martin. Then I tuned her up, took a strum of a G chord and was like "WOW!." Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The tone is, well...dreamy. It sounds loud, very well balanced, nice bass response and just sings! Action How was the action out of the box? Action was great. The strings I am not so sure of however, as they were a little stiff. May move to some Elixer's. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? This guitar is a work of art! The Koa is flat out amazing looking (and smelling) and the honeyburst finish makes this thing museum worthy! Couldn't be happier how sweet this baby looks. And the little appointments like the Gold Grover tuners, "Limited" trust rod cover and such make this so cool! and oh - it comes with a 8.5x11 Certificate of Authenticity stating it is a Certified Limited Edition, signed by the master luthier (I guess) and has the guitar serial number on it. One of 75 units made! How cool is that?!!!!!!!!! Reliability How has it stood up over time? Just got it.
Huge Disappointment in Gibson & AMS!

General Your general opinion of this product. Gibson J45's are normally great guitars with a wonderful distinctive tone. The pictures of this one in the catalog with the wonderful antique sunburst and highly figured koa back and sides was simply too much to resist. The one I received was nothing like this. The tone is great but the color is much much lighter than the one in the add or on the website. The sunburst was a completely different color and the koa had no figuring at all. You know how great the hamburger looks on TV and then what you actually get looks nothing like that. Yep, it was like that. The neck had no relief at all and was low in the first position and extremely high at the 12th. Relieving the truss rod did not give a smooth arch relief over the neck. Only frets 1-3 showed relief with no relief at all in frets 4-14. I called to return the guitar but the service rep said that because of the price I would need to speak with a technician before I could return it. They promised they would have a technician call me back but no one ever did. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The neck was not set up correctly. The neck is defective and the truss rod does not produce a proper relief. The frets were not polished and were still rough from filing at the factory. There was buffing compound still on the top and there were several marks in the finish. The guitar was so dry from AMS that the top cracked from a ridiculously small impact when putting it back in the case (after calling to send the guitar back and not receiving any call from and AMS tech). A piece of advice: if you decide to send one of these back and AMS gives you the run around – leave it in the case and pester them until you can speak with a tech to return it. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The neck is shallow but not too shallow if you are sued to modern Gibson electrics. The action was fine at the first position abut playing chords past the third position was extremely difficult due to the setup (which I later realized was intentional to make the best of the problem with the neck)I guess hoping whoever purchased it played mainly in the 1-3 positions. The shallow neck profile made this even more difficult. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Tone was 100% J45! No complaints there. Love the tone! Action How was the action out of the box? Absolutely horrible, unworkable! Finish How did the stain or paint job look? nothing like what was advertised. Not just a different tone but a different color. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Hard to say. Right out of the gate it will need a top crack repair and a complete re-fret, file, polish and possibly neck repair to create a suitable string relief.
Incredible tone, stunning looks

General Your general opinion of this product. The book matched koa is beyond stunning. With a 3-D-esque flame. The build quality is outstanding. The neck feels wonderful. The tone is stellar. Crisp with the clarity of maple yet with the breathy mid-range of mahogany when strummed. Great volume and projection. There is nothing to not like about this guitar. The price is amazing for a USA crafted guitar with beautiful koa wood. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Very well made. Attention to detail is outstanding. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Great action in the neck. Feels very nice in the hands. The guitar is light and the chords and notes just feel Like they float from the guitar. Plays like butter. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The tone is bright and clear with a nice warm midrange. Action How was the action out of the box? Perfection. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The finish is great and the honey burst is stunning. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Don't know yet.
