General Your general opinion of this product. I've never written a review before, on anything. I just had to write this one because I haven't been able to find a review anywhere that focuses on the sound of the guitar for solo/band performance. I love a good sounding acoustic, but I make my money plugging it in, not on my couch. I'm a die-hard Taylor player of almost 20 years. But since the ES, I've been trying to find something to gig with that sounds as natural as possible. This is it. Out of the box and plugged in this thing sounds almost as good as it does acoustically. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The quality of the guitar is excellent. Gibson's are still hand made, and you can easily see, hear and feel it. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The guitar is only about 4 1/2 pounds, so it's plenty light enough to play a 4 hour show and not even think about it. It's a dreadnaught, which is bigger than the grand auditoriums I'm used to, but it's not an issue for me. The neck is slightly bigger than the Taylor neck I'm used to as well, but still VERY playable and comfortable. As far as the controls, it doesn't get any easier than one volume knob, and it's positioned nicely inside the sound hole. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? This guitar is very well balanced. It has very full lows, and nice crisp highs. All around a great guitar for any style. The L.R. Baggs Element is a very responsive pickup, and it faithfully reproduces the sound of the guitar when plugged in. It's not "quacky" or compressed in any way, and I'm a very heavy-handed and percussive player. I really beat on it at times and it doesn't drop out or distort at all. I run it through a Fishman Aura Spectrum D.I. into an Allen and Heath ZED 10FX, and out through QSC K12's. It has plenty of punch, but isn't muddy. I actually had to back the highs off a touch to get it where I wanted it, but it's still EQ'd almost flat. I've used several internal mics in the past, like the Lyric and Anthem, and this pre/pickup combination sounds better, with almost no feedback issues (unless you're on top of the speaker). Action How was the action out of the box? The action was a bit high, but that's normal. Almost every guitar is at about 90% of it's playability off the wall. It's intentional because everyone has different tastes and styles. It' took me less than 30 minutes to set it up, just a small bit of relief added because the neck was arrow straight, sanded down the bridge a touch to compensate, and put some Elixirs on it. That was all it needed. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The Nitrocellulose finish was great, no defects that I could see. The finish is my least important feature. Reliability How has it stood up over time? I've only had it on two gigs, time will tell. Seems solid though.

General Your general opinion of this product. This guitar is awesome! Out of the box, the setup was perfect. I never knew that owning a great guitar could improve how I play. But, it is true! Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? This guitar is made very well! I love it! The sound is very warm. It is very playable. Great bass and highs! Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? It is light. The neck is not too small and not too wide. It is perfect for me. It seems to be a great all-around guitar for both strumming and finger picking! Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Very warm with awesome bass and great treble! Action How was the action out of the box? Action was perfect out of the box. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The stain on the front has two spots that I am not sure are knots in the wood or finish imperfections. Reliability How has it stood up over time? I have only owned it for a week. I keep it stored in the case in my bedroom. With this kind of care, it should last a lifetime!
