Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Outstanding.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
It was ok. I am a person who likes to have a luthier work on the action to get it as low as possible. So as I can play them fast licks like I do.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Very well made. Holds a tuning for days sometimes, depending on the temperature and humidity changes. The finish is outstanding. Forget the aged and satin finishes and get the reissue if you can afford it.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have only had it a month, however, from past experiences with gibsons...I know it will last way beyond my lifetime.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Gibson makes the best guitars as far as I am concerned, and the SG '61 reissue is one of the best of the best!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
It is not to heavy, but solid, and has the sustain you would expect, all note till the cows come home, with no squeal. Fast slim neck is the only way to go.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Anything you want. Unless you play country, if so, you might want to go with a maple neck stratacaster.

this guitat is amazing. I own an Sg standard and it is awesome. I did researsch online and read many different opinions and I purchaed it on an impulse. best damn decision I have ever made really. the sg standard and 61 reissue are really very different and in a good way.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
very smooth neck in comparisson with my standard, but in no way does it effect tone or sustain or playability
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
tone, well all I can say is holy crap. The sound onthis guitar is the tone you have been looking for it is growling and mean, but sexy when you want her to be. She gives me that unleashed bite that my standard can not. This tone is what rock gods are made of
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
outstanding finish, very red looking pictures on this web site or elswhere do not do it justice. I am usually an ebony guy, but I was very impressed with this color.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
I think the action is pretty good I may lower mine a bit later, but for now it serves its purpose

Your general opinion of this product.
I owned an SG in 1966 and this new one plays as well and sounds as good as the old one - I don't have the old one anymore to compare, but from memory sounds as good to me - This was the 1st guitar I have purchased on-line, so I was somewhat apprehensive - but, I want to thank American Musical for excellent service - the entire purchase to reciept process was perfect
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The have a Strat and LP and the SG neck is slightly longer than either, but I prefer the SG - It has the 1960 slim taper neck which is very easy to play.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Excellent tone - smooth when necessary and has a nice bite when needed
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Perfect finish - this guitar was delivered in perfect condition
Action
How was the action out of the box?
I was surprised that the action was great - no string buzz at any fret and easy to play
