The Ultimate Electric Guitar

What is your overall opinion of this product?
I have found that the Gibson SG electric guitar is the ultimate electric guitar. There is a reason that most of the world class guitar player's either play or have a Gibson SG in their guitar arsenal.
While they may or may not feel that the Gibson SG is the ultimate guitar, IMHO I have not found an electric guitar that so excites my passion to play music. I can play the Gibson SG for hours at a time and have found that it is very comfortable to sleep with at night. LOL!
There are a very few electric guitars that ignite my passion to play electric guitar, the Gibson SG in one of them. I know, I own two.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
A few pieces of top grade Mahogany fused together to make a whole that produces invincible tone. The metal hardware, while not the same as the former Kalamazoo, MI product, is very durable and has a nice metallic feel, very solid.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
For me with small hands, the SG's neck is just about perfect, I love the feel of rosewood under my fingertips. Rapid playing is highly possible with relative ease.
A full complement of controls for the humbucking pickups and if you'd like, a tremolo system is available for extra cost.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The sound of countless rock and roll albums are because of the pure rock tone the Gibson SG puts out. From the '60s to now, the Gibson SG has been one of the main instruments that rock guitarists have depended on.
From a whisper to a full throated scream, the SG has it all down and covered. A Marshall amp is highly recommended, or an Orange if one must.
The Gibson SG still has the balls to rock out with any other electric guitar available to the general public.
How did the stain or paint job look?
There is nothing like nitrocellulose lacquer. Deep shine, graceful aging and allows tone to escape unhindered from the mahogany.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Yes, Gibson hasn't priced this guitar into the stratosphere yet, so it represents a good value for the price. But don't wait to get yours, as sure as the Sun rises in the East, Gibson will raise the prices on these gems.
How was the action out of the box?
As I mentioned, I have small hands, so to me, the action on the SG is just about perfect. The strings are not a mile and half above the fingerboard, not too far apart or crowded together, the neck flares out perfectly from the nut to the body joint.
With the low and highly playable action, I can zip from the low 'E' to the high 'E' with ease. This guitar definitely rates as a shredder's delight.
But then again, slide guitar players also have found the Gibson SG is able to give them the screaming blues tones with no problem at all. All in all, a very versatile guitar.
The light weight body makes for comfortable playing while standing up, and will not cut off blood to your foot when playing sitting down. Altogether a very comfortable guitar to play.
Taken decent care of, the Gibson SG will provide many, many years of playing satisfaction and incredible tone that will only improve with age.
