General Your general opinion of this product. Back in the 60's I had a 1957 Gibson J-45. Over the years I sold it, got it back, traded it for a Martin and then lost track of it. So, in searching for a new axe I looked at Martins and Taylors but nostolgia grabbed me by the seat of my pants and I bought this Gibson. A good choice? We'll see over the next few months. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The Songwriter is a supurb example of Gibson craftsmanship. Ther are aboslutely no flaws. Run your finger over the rosette, bindings, neck inlays and headstock inlays and you feel no seams or distortions. The tone woods are delicious and the book matched rosewood on the back is stunning and the center binding is seamless. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? I read other reviews before purchasing the Songwriter and a common thread seems to be that the action out of the box needed adjusting.Same, same with this one. The action was a little high at the 12th fret. As we speak I have it at a Gibson certified craftsman setting it up for me. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The tone is well banlanced, lows, mids and high but I get a little more boom from the bass strings. I like that as opposed to my Taylor which has way too much treble. Action How was the action out of the box? The action was okay around the nut to the fifth fret but as I moved up the neck the action got a little tough as the strings were rising to the bridge. Hopefully the set up will aleviate that. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Besides the nostogia factor, the look of this guitar, gold hardware, nitrocellulose finsh, stunning tone woods and body size clinched the decision for buying this particular axe. The boys in Bozeman got this one right. Reliability How has it stood up over time? My old J-45 was a great guitar and held up from some pretty hard playing and traveling. I expect the Songwriter to be the same.
Looks nice, doesn't play or sound like a guitar in its price class.

General Your general opinion of this product. Seems well built. Looks nice, plays alright once its setup right. Tone is not there though. Sounds very anemic and almost plastic-y. I've only put around 40 hours playing on it so it might open up a bit more with more playing but I dont think it sounded like a guitar worth the money it cost. If this was around a $1K instrument, I might say its worth it. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend though. Called Gibson about my issues and they weren't even willing to look at it. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Feels well built and solid. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Profile on the neck is nice and comfortable. The action was a little too high out of the box to make it really playable. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Lacks any real low end and is somewhat thin. Very mid rangy. Nice harmonics though. Maybe it was just the one I received but to me, doesn't sound anywhere near a $2600 guitar. To me this is the most important part of a nice guitar and this one comes up very short. Action How was the action out of the box? Too high. Probably about 3/16" above the fretboard. I had to take it to a tech to get it setup properly. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Gorgeous finish. inlay details are very nice. The Gold hardware was a nice touch. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Only had it 60 or so days. We'll see
Well made, sounds good, and good looks

General Your general opinion of this product. The name really says it all, but in case you don't know this product you haven't lived yet! Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Best Quality and workmanship that I have found in the Acoustic field of of stringed instruments. I have played since I was five years old and to own a Gibson ( twice now) is like reaching the very top row of achievement.Out side of marriage and your relationship to God, owning this Quality of an instrument is one of the greatest decisions you will make in a lifetime!!! Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? I have large working hands and to find an instrument that is worth playing or investing in, that plays this easy is like trying to literally find that needle in a haystack. The composition tried but Gibson came up winner! Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? I play Gospel and Bluegrass and this instrument has the perfect tone for all my music. It is bright and crisp, has good base tone and has a volume even without amplification that will push all the others to the background and if this baby is in your hands, you will certainly take front center. It also plays well if soft is the desired sound and still be crisp and clear !! Action How was the action out of the box? Super fast, smooth and if you have large hands, that's no problem with speed and accuracy of this instrument. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Unbelievable how such care and precision came together to develop such a flawless beauty! Reliability How has it stood up over time? I just got it in December, but, But, I know Gibson from previous ownership and my last guitar was an Alvarez Yari Jumbo, and it kept me company for 41 years and my son now has it and it still looks new. So I know with the quality and select woods of Gibson and the craftsmanship, it will be here, looking good, sounding good and performing after I am gone!
This is the guitar I will keep the rest of my life

General Your general opinion of this product. The songwriter deluxe has everything I love about acoustic guitars all wrapped up in one model. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Build quality is excellent Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The Songwriter feels great to me. I am six feet tall with fairly large hands. The shape and radius of the neck fits me very well. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Mellow when it needs to be. Bright on the upper frets. No complaints. Action How was the action out of the box? The action was a little bit high when I got it. A simple truss rod adjustment corrected it in just a few minutes. No fret buzz. It's perfect now. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Excellent. Buffed to perfection. Reliability How has it stood up over time? I haven't had it a year yet, but so far there are no issues. It looks and sounds as good as when I got it.
