The Bass Playin' Trucker from Hampton, GA
Subject:
My favorite bass!!!
Quality:
Better than any MIM Fender & rivals even the American made Fenders! I can't believe it's made in Indonesia. I get compliments on the looks of this bass. I've had a MIM Fender bass & a Gibson SG bass in the past. The L-2500 is my main bass & my favorite one!
Features:
I really like the pre-amp switch so you can choose to play active or passive. The series/parallel switch is great for getting single coil tones. String thru body provides great sound too. I like having 1 master volume too. Pickups are selected by a 3 way switch, very nice as well!
Sound:
I've been told that since I've had this bass that my sound has never been better.
Playability and Feel:
The neck is fast. It has a nice stain finish that is so smooth and a joy to play. I seriously doubt you will regret getting this bass.
Tone:
Almost any tone you can think of is in this bass. Like I said before, with the series/parallel switch & pickup selector switch there are so many sounds available to you. Sounds great active or passive. A great signal even in passive mode.
Finish:
I have the natural carved maple top with satin clear coat. Looks and feels great. G&L's finishes are GREAT.
Action:
Just right with D'Addario strings! (The only strings I use now)

Owned for 5 years
Quality:
In 5 years I have owned this, My other 6 basses have had to take a back seat. This is just so right and the sound is so adjustable I really have any sound I could wish at a drop of the hat. With one exception my carvin fretless that I costume made over a three year period. But I'm prejudice its been my baby and is fretless. Not a fair comparison. But unfortunately not many delve into the fretless zone.
Features:
The best features of this bass is the versatility. You can easily get fender p, jazz and music man punch as well as funk and everything in-between. Not kidding, I love the versatility. Just a hint to the workings of this bass use a really good amp and set it flat and use the controls on the bass for countering ( I am a SWR fan). Please if you do want authentic sound explore the passive sounds I think they are slamming and very much better than my p's or jazzes.
Sound:
As I've alluded the sound is stellar and very varied. Super quiet and of studio quality. Number one in my studio.
Playability and Feel:
I'm not one to complain about how heavy a bass is, if it sounds right i'll suffer, that being said the weight is reasonable and I use leavey 3" padded straps almost exclusively on my basses. Feel is another subject, I love, no lust this bass, and every chance I can I pick it up, I do. I hate to wax over a single company, it sounds like I have no experience, or am a simpleton, I'm not, I've been playing since 1974. and learned arco with the garden state philharmonic orchestra as well as a hired musician for plays and numerous gigs of various flavors. I consider myself a good bass bass player with studio skills, and I've been looking for a very controllable bass for years. This one is very playable.
Tone:
Tone can be anything you wish but again use the controls on the guitar. Its a shame I have such a great amp and usually set it up to flat as a ruler. I love to set up a passive sound then switch to active for forward sounding parts then switch back to passive. Another trick is on the bridge switch to a less treble detent and it will suck the listener in like someone whispering then boost back in the chorus and BAMM right in your face again. So simple but works everytime.
Finish:
Bar none the nicest right out of the box. super sweet black swirl. Joints were perfect. God I love the frets, effortless to play, Paint and polish and electronics were dead on. Much better than any fender, closer to ric's. My friends love this bass and in the studio it is picked number one over any others. Because of looks?
Action:
Not great, but I need very low action due to carpal tunnel problems and after a few adjustments it now sings. I can play it all night without problems. I adjust ALL of my basses seasonally because of my condition and this adjusts very quickly a sure sign of high quality.

Great Bass Great $$$
Quality:
Great , can't beat it! I had a Music man stingray 5 string . I like this much better!!
Features:
The tone / toggle controls are a + .maybe add a graphite nut instead of the plastic one.
Sound:
Sounds GREAT, about as good as my $1600 L2000
Playability and Feel:
This bass is a bit heavy , the neck is comfortable for a 5 string . if you have small hands you may want to go for a Ibanez which has a thinner neck but (in my oppinion) the G&L's sound you can't beat !
Tone:
All around great tone .doesn't get that clicking tapping sound that my Musicman 5 with active P/U's use to get
Finish:
nice finish very well done
Action:
action was good right out of the box
