other than: the "Mahogany face plate", the seat pad, made from rejected,ultra thin mouse pad material,it is well made, If,there is any Mahogany in the face plate, it is the thin,unfinished veneer on the inside. the rest of the plate looks to be made of plastic or poplar, and the face to be a paper decal. Out of the box I could only get a bass sound, and no snap from the plate at all. But the back of the drum produced quality sound. after adjusting the snare wired, i finely found the snare sound, but it can only be produced on the top left corner of the drum. Quit limiting. A nice touch is the string of plastic jingles on the snare wires, and the gig bag is nice. I plain to use this on a street corner, with a group of musicians. I was hoping to be able to replace my concert cajon (10 years old and broken snares) but it does not have the volume or quality of sound. Given variances in manufacturing, you might get a good one,with a wider sweet spot, who knows?
