What is your opinion of this product?
This is my 2nd Hammond and the 1st one (XK-1), was serviceable, but it was a lot to carry around for just an "organ sound." To be fair, I have never owned a vintage B-3, so taste is subjective. I thought the SK-2 would be a portable, versatile double manual board to save me from lugging around a multi keyboard set up.
It wasn't. System issues. Freezing, lockups, etc., which I thought would be solved by updating the O/S. No. The vaulted "Hammond sound"? In a word, "Meh". Passable, but not great. The onboard effects? Useless. It is shameful (and disappointing) that Hammond would go so cheap on such a high priced board. The keyboard is a reduced scale, maybe 7/8 scale or so. For a board that costs $3K, this thing just screams CHEAP. I read all the reviews, watched many online video's, but if I had played one first, I never would have purchased the SK-2.
MY advice: Try one in person first, before deciding if this is for you. I'll keep my Roland, Nord & Moog.
