General What is your overall opinion of this product? As a lady bassist with rather stubby fingers, I really appreciate the neck on this bass. I can reach every note, every time, no problem. I love how light it is - my shoulder never aches after playing - and the tone is rich and smooth. For the price, you can't beat this Hofner. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? I've personally only dabbled in punk, shoegaze, and blues, and this bass sounds amazing for all three. I generally play with a pick, and the sound rings nice and full. Features Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features? On the bass itself, I am more than happy with the features, particularly the light weight and the shorter, thinner neck. I used to use a cheap Rogue, and I would take this Hofner over it any day. I loved the look of the Rogue, which is why I ordered the Hofner, and I am not disappointed. The case, however, is adequate, but poorly made. It came with a big scuff, one of the latches fell off, and the pull handle on the compartment on the inside ripped off the first time I tugged on it. It'll do, though, and since it came with the bass, I'm not dissatisfied. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? So light, so easy to tune, and it stays in tune surprisingly well. It feels like I'm holding a toy, but it sounds like a million dollars. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? Smooth, mellow, and rich. Perfect for rolling on the low end. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? I LOVE the black and white color. I think that was my main deciding factor in purchasing this bass, and I can't stop looking at it. This Hofner really makes a statement. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? The price was a bargain compared to what stores were charging, and I could only find the black and white model online. I utilized the EZ Payment system, which I have to say, is the greatest system ever for buying band gear. Playability How was the action out of the box? I recommend throwing a new set of strings on this bad boy, but other than that, it's been a dream.
Good with a few minor issues that are easy to fix

General What is your overall opinion of this product? Despite not being manufactured in Germany, the quality of the instrument is quite good. The hollow body makes for deep bass tones, and the shorter scale neck and light body make for comfortable playing. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? While I would not suggest the Hofner bass for funk/slap style playing, it is excellent for all other genres. Features Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features? The best features are the lightness of the body and ease of play. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Light, thinner neck -- more like playing an electric guitar. This makes playing easier for those of us with tendonitis or aches and pains related to playing. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? The pickups can provide deep, warm tones or tinny lead-line tones - mix and match the settings. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Very well done -- particularly for a lower priced version of a famous name. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? This is an excellent value, providing unexpected tone and playability, along with classic Beatle looks. Playability How was the action out of the box? No problem. Action is good, but again, I would not recommend it for slap style due to the way the strings lie fairly close to the fingerboard.

General What is your overall opinion of this product? I am surprised at the quality of this guitar. I had a Rogue Violin Bass and it was a piece of neck heavy junk. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? This guitar has style and playability. The set up is great out of the box. I get a nice tone out of it on a little 10 watt practice amp. Features Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features? The only draw back to this guitar is the crappy strings that come on it. They will be changed very soon. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? It is sleek and sits well in my lap which is what I wanted. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? The tone is nice even in this little 10 watt practice amp that I have. I get a whole range of tones on it. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The finish is rich and beautiful. Not a flaw in it. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? Great value for the price. Not a complaint here except the strings that came on it. Playability How was the action out of the box? Nice set up and no fret buzz.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Seems well-built to me. I do have reservations about the longetivity of the tuners, but only time will tell. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? It's a true hollowbody, so it's very light, which makes it easy on the shoulders. The only feature I would add would be the Hofner "tea cup" volume knobs and white switches, but that's a farily inexpensive mod that I will most likely do myself later. General Your general opinion of this product. I think it's a great little short-scale bass. It's a violin bass, so it's unique and if you're a "Daytripper" fan on a "Day Job" budget, it's a great instrument. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? I would say this bass has a smooth, "woody" tone. It's unique, and the discerning ear can immediately tell it's a hollowbody. However, this bass has no on-board tone controls, so you'll be relegated to adjusting the settings on your amp or using an in-line graphic equalizer for on-the-go tone modification. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? I thought the finish was amazing! Mine arrived and looked better than all of the other pictures I've seen online.
