General What is your overall opinion of this product? This is not only the best value around for an 8-string, but it surpasses guitars beyond this price range. A lot of review say "best for the money," but it's not just that. It's a great guitar on its own merit. This is a guitar that should be the standard for 8-string guitars. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? The build quality is excellent. The neck is constructed very solidly. The guitar as a whole isn't overly heavy, but it's got enough weight to it so that it doesn't feel cheap either. The stock bridge is very sturdy and nice to play on, and even for stock tuners, this guitar doesn't go out of tune while playing. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The neck is where this guitar excels. It's very comfortable and very fast. Ibanez really knows what they're doing with their Wizard necks. The fret edges weren't even sharp, which is a huge plus for anything even remotely close to this price range. The extended scale really makes the low strings stay defined. I tune down to a low E, and you can hear every note. The body is as comfortable and easy to play on as you'd expect from an RG. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? The overall tone of the guitar is bright and with it being a basswood body, the pickups get to do a lot of the talking. It holds tones very well, and even the stock pickups held their own. The neck pickup is great for leads and has a perfect clean sound. The bridge pickup handles the low notes well enough. I did switch it out for a Seymour Duncan Nazgul, and it really brings out the growl from the low end. This guitar really handles the low tuning well. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? It's a basic white finish, but it's very thick and looks very nice in person. Even around the pickup routes where some guitars will show a little unevenness with the polyurethane, on this one it's very minimalistic, if at all. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? The value far exceeds anything else that any other guitar manufacturer has made. This can be basically marketed as an "Iron Label" without the aftermarket pickups and the Gibraltar bridge. Very worthwhile. Playability How was the action out of the box? The playability is superb. The neck feels great, the bridge holds the notes well, and the overall out of the box setup was very playable. Everyone has their own preferences, but for a factory setup and light string gauges, it held a tone very well. Overall a great guitar.

General What is your overall opinion of this product? This is a good cheap guitar if you are looking into your first 8 sting guitar. For the price its hard to beat. Very few large name companies are using extended scale guitars, so this is a nice fit, if you're looking for that. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? The quality is good. It seems to be built very sturdy and the paint seems like it will last. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Its a heavy guitar. Its the heaviest guitar I own and I own a few. The neck is very flat and very fast. It needed a slight bit of sanding to make it super smooth. One volume and one tone with a 3 way slider switch. Kinda hard to screw up. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? The tone is very dark. The pickups sound nice for individual strings but with using power chords down low you lose a lot of definition. The highs are also very thin. I will replace these pickups. In this price range however, I don't know of a single guitar that I wouldn't change the pickups in. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The satin finish on the neck needs a slight bit of sanding. At least mind did. The paint seems very thick to me. I doubt if it will chip or crack easy. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? IN this price range, it would be impossible for me to beat this guitar. I wanted a longer scale guitar. I wanted an eight string. Not to mention the neck on this thing is fantastic after a slight sanding. The pickups are not acceptable, but then again in this price range that is normal. Playability How was the action out of the box? Tuning was close and innotation was off only on two strings. Out of the box it was fine for most people. After I sanded the neck some and put my preferred strings on it, I have no complaints.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? This is a top notch guitar. It's studio worthy and road ready. General Your general opinion of this product. great guitar - there are somethings to change - the pickup and midscoop circuitry must go. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The only thing you'll ever want to do with this guitar is change out the pickups. I put an EMG808 in the bridge, dumped the mid scoop circutry and the other pickup. It works great as a 1 pickup 1 volume guitar. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? gloss black. looks...black.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? I consider this guitar very well made. I will be putting this guitar in the upper rotation of my tour gear. General Your general opinion of this product. I love the feel of the RG8. Being a 7 string player for the past 12 years, I knew it would take a little while to get used to the wider fretboard. After a day, I was used to it and using the RG8 to replace my main guitar. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The tone is very dark, which I love to death. I love the fact that this guitar expresses the tone in my fingers. The pickups have a medium to hot output. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The paint job looks very nice and I cannot wait to see it under stage lights.
