| Very well made. Good fit and finish. Not as sexy as an Avalon or other high-priced pre's, but it's also less than 1/2 the price. The chassis is a tank, the knobs have a good 'feel' and the layout, although tight, is easy to get around once you know where the various sections are. | | Features:
| The sound of the Mic Pre's are unquestionably the best feature of this product. You will spend more than double for a single channel pre and only benefit marginally (if at all).
The Compressor is very usable, and sounds fantastic on the vocal and Electric Guitar tracks that I have recorded thus far. It's definitely aggressive, but it can be tamed.
The EQ is likewise aggressive, but again can lend subtle enhancement or correction during tracking. I did not need to track with the EQ enabled however, because the TWINQ Pre's sound so good, that corrective EQ was not required. | | Ease of Use:
| There are a lot of functions crammed into a tight, 2-rack space, form factor. It took a little time to get the layout down to where I didn't grab the Compressor knobs when I meant to turn an EQ control. The Compressor, as previously stated, is aggressive and takes some time to learn it's sound and sweet spots, same with the EQ. But a couple of hours of knob-turning got me 'in the zone' for a pile of Mics and DI's on different sources. This is not difficult to use, but like any good piece of gear, requires some time spent to get good with it. | | Sound:
| The Mic pre in the Burr-Brown IC mode is deep, open, clear, and hot. Tons of headroom, and more than enough gain for ribbon mics. Also super quiet. I did not perceive (or record) hiss at properly staged gain levels. Even when pushed right to the warning clip light, there is no hiss.
Every Mic I have set up through this pre has sounded great. It's the first time I have felt I can actually hear what my mics sound like. The ADK Vienna, Hamburgh, and S7 all shined through, with their differences clearly audible. My SM57 is punchy and full, My SE R1 ribbons were just sweet, and a Radial Engineering JDX gained an openness in the bottom end that was just amazing.
With the "IRON" transformer mode engaged, Vocals and guitar just take their place in the mix. Very detailed, almost outlined, with a nice, slight, mid-range push in just the right spot. This is "The Sound of Rock" and it is exactly what I was hoping I'd get. I can't wait to track drums though this. | | Reliability:
| Too new to tell, but it has been running for 3 weeks straight now and no issues. | | Overall:
| I could not have spent my $$$ better. This is a real recording tool. These are the best vocal and guitar sounds I have ever recorded, and the most progress I have ever made in making the sound of my recordings 'pro'. Great tools help make great products! | | Do you own this product?:

| Quality seems to be good. I have only owned it for a week, so we'll see how it holds up, but it appears to be well made. The mics are a bit iffy. Mine work and sound great, but a friend bought on and his mics are noisy and sound pretty bad. Of course, I didn't buy this for the mics. | | Features:
| This thing is loaded with features... Optocompressor, EQ, switchable metering, etc... | | Ease of Use:
| The product is pretty straight forward. There are a lot of features, so if your not familiar with some of them, it may take a few minutes to become familiar. | | Sound:
| I've tried this on a male voice, toms, and a snare drum. So far, it sounds pretty darn good. The "iron" button really improved a semi-weak male voice I recorded. It made is sound strong an full. I can't wait to try it on a guitar cab. It would also work very nicely for voice-over projects. The converters could be better, but they aren't bad. | | Reliability:
| I haven't owned this long enough to know how reliable it is, but so far, so good. | | Overall:
| I would recommend this product, especially for those who want a quality pre, packed with features, at an affordable price. I'm using it right along side of my Focusrite ISA 428, and it is holding it's own. | | Do you own this product?:
