Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? This is my second KSD Burner Ignition 5, and I wouldn't have bought it unless it was a fine instrument for a great price. The only issue I had with my 1st one was an intermittant output jack. It took me $9 and 25 minutes to fix it. I've had far bigger issues with much costlier instruments in the past, so this was nothing. The control cavity is clean, orderly and spacious. Fretwork is flawless, hardware is all high quality and the craftsmanship exceeds the asking price. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? I have really grown to love the 16.5 mm bridge spacing. It is 1-3mm narrower than most 5 strings, but I have had no issues at all making the transition and now even my Fenders (which I have played over 25 years)feel odd! General Your general opinion of this product. Like I mentioned, I liked my 1st one enough to warrant buying a second bass. I have only done that a couple other times in my equipment-buying career. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? I play my #1 with D'Addario chrome flatwounds, so MY tone is a bit dark as a result. The factory strings, though, showed that this beast can lay down some serious thumb grooves and transmit nice treble chop to whatever amp you use. The pickups are medium output, so your preamp will have to pick up some slack as far as volume goes. I have run my bass thru numerous amps, FX and straight into boards and have always found great sounds without much effort at all. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Stain looked great. It's a very deep glossy finish on the body, again to help protect the basswood from weather/sweat/dings. The neck has a smooth-as-silk satin finish over the hard maple, and it feels amazing.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Very well manufactured. Tight fit on the neck pocket, no issues with glue or finish. Fretwork is very good, no sharp edges and all frets evenly seated. Very stable bridge and hardware across the board. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? I like that it is passive, although some may prefer active electronics. At this price point, there's not much to complain about. The basswood body may not be as durable as other, more traditional woods, but it does give a nice tone to the bass. General Your general opinion of this product. This bass LOOKS great, PLAYS great and SOUNDS great...so, I suppose it's GREAT! You just cannot find a comparable build quality in such an inexpensive bass. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? 100% analog...no batteries required, or in my case desired. I like the passive electronics, but for those wanting to change the pickups, there is plenty of room in the cavity for a preamp and a battery Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Basswood isn't a highly figured wood, so the woodgrain is subtle, at best. I think the finish is a little heavier than it would be on a more common wood type, probably to compensate for basswoods inherent softness.
