You can use either RCA, 1/4", or XLR inputs (I use TRS, which is very quiet.) Also, you have a HF control as well as LF. I keep mine flat, but this is a nice option to have. The isolation pads definitely tighten up the bass/low mids as well. Sounds great. Reliability How has it stood up over time? well one month so far. No signs of any future problems. I would say this is the necessary next step after good headphones.

I bought the speakers stand and decoupling pads as a package which made the deal very sweet. Has aton of bass for little speakers without sounding too hyped.
