Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? I dont use the knobs on the unit itself to edit the sound at all. The HD400 edit software is much easier to navigate then the menus on the display. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The tone is great, very realistic compared to a tube amp. I run mine from the power amp in section of a fender hotrod deluxe and use the preamp models of the HD400. Out of the box, most of the user preset were unusable, but if you take a little time and dial in your sound with the edit software you can get some amazing and realistic tones. The 65 deluxe, hiwatt 100, jcm800, and mesa models were my favorites. At the time of this writing there are approximatley 4000 user created patches available to downlaod at line 6 for the HD500 verses 1000 patches for the HD300/400. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? No issues what so ever. Action How was the action out of the box? I did have to calibrate the foot pedal before I could use it, but it was an easy enough operation from the line 6 online help manual. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Full metal housing, metal foot switches and a solid feeling foot petal. Reliability How has it stood up over time? I've only used mine in a home studio environment but have had no issues what so ever. I use mine as a usb interface to record with reaper, and sometimes through the power amp section of a fender hotrod deluxe. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you change the output settings on the back of this unit if you are using it in studio (usb/headphone) or live. General Your general opinion of this product. I knew when I ordered this product that I wanted to get the HD series of amp modelers. The only difficult decision was between the 300 400 and 500. After having the 400 for a while I can definitely say that I wished I had sprung for the 500. The 300 and the 400 both have 3 banks of effects that you can choose one effect from to chain together at a time. The first bank is all your distortions and compressors, so this means you can choose either a distortion pedal or a compressor but not both. The sound is still very good from this unit but the 500 gives you much more freedom when dialing in your sound. With the 500 you can choose any effect in any combination. The signal path is limited only by the processing poser of the unit. If the three bank effect system is enough for you, the only difference between the 300 and the 400 is the effects loop and expression pedal input.
better than the old Pod xt

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? I read the previous reviews and thought blah blah. Seriously, this think is very solid and well made. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Havent had it long enough to determine. General Your general opinion of this product. I was honestly amazed when I got this Pod. The technology is very cool. I was very disappointed with the user manual. If your buying this, do yourself a favor and download the Advanced User Manual as only a basic one is included in the box... I found that strange after dropping $400. The Pod is great but if youve never used one read through and educate yourself to get the full capability. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? By playability Im just going to emphasize that it would benifit anyone to familiarize yourself with the Advanced User Manual on Line 6's webpage. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? See above, everything is here. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? As expected Action How was the action out of the box?

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? i bought a blemished to save some $, and for the life of me i can't find what was wrong with it that made it a blem. switches are responsive and the display is bright and large enough to read. the quality is second to none. Reliability How has it stood up over time? i've had it a month and it seems indestructable. but i also have still not taken off the protective cellophane off the display. General Your general opinion of this product. sound is pristine and from what i can tell , tones are right there. massive tweakability for us tone junkies and customtone.com for the get it and play guitarists Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? well made and very dependable Reliability How has it stood up over time? had the previous pod x3 live took tones of abuse only had this for about a month- its solid alot more metal than the previous- I see no issues General Your general opinion of this product. Well thought out- nothing you dont need everything you might actually use Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? feels great- like I said the amp models actually have a touch and feel of their own. there a few presets that are like "what in the world" then alot of them are playable as they are- but hey you can edit the ones you dont like- so cant really dock them for that Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Finish How did the stain or paint job look? perfect Action How was the action out of the box? its pretty simple and straight forward I like that you can edit the channels with it attached to you pc or mac- I am horrible with scroll screens and such- so that was a def plus- still havent figured out the effects loop send and return deal- maybe Im totally missing something here I have no idea- but have managed a way to run it through my effects loop
