This could be for you.
Quality:
Everything except the finger caps on the faders seem to be of decent quality. I wish Mackie would have used a little higher quality component on the faders, but other than that. It seems quite good.
Features:
This mixer is very compact, but sounds GREAT! The 4 busses are "multed" so it is easy to feed a typical sound interface or set-up sub-groups. A number of routing features, usually found on more expensive mixers, make it possible to handle complex set-ups.
Ease of Use:
This product is quite simple to set-up and use right out of the box. It is, however, powerful enough that it is a good idea to crack open the user's manual and understand some of the more advanced routing features. These features can make some of the more complex set-ups much easier.
Sound:
I have only used it in two rooms, and it sounds clear and full. For the price, it's going to be very hard to beat.
Reliability:
We'll see, but I'm a little worried about the durability of the finger caps on the faders. They wiggle easily and look and feel, well flimsy. I don't plan to use this nightly on the road, only on weekends, so it should last a while.
Overall:
If you are looking for a compact mixer, this could be your product! It sounds great and has excellent routing options. The finger caps on the faders look and feel cheap. If you plan to use this night after night on the road. It might be better to look for something a little more sturdy. If you want to use it on weekends or as playback mixer in a home studio, it is hard to beat this one.

Quality:
this thing weighs a ton and is really solid,no loos knobs, nothing flimsy
Features:
8 direct outs and 4 subgroups!!!
Ease of Use:
5 minutes to hook up, good manual, will take longer to learn all the options that can be done with direct outs, subgroups, inserts auxes and the like
Sound:
outstanding!!! perfect for centerpiece of digital home studio!! mic pre's are amazing, definitely better than cheap priced mixers sound quality wise, the 1642 is just one step above and it makes my recordings and studio sound great ,no joke , even my monitors sound better than direct from sound card
Reliability:
still have my ten year old 1402,so this one should last as long with care
Overall:
just perfect for the home studio for those who care about their sound quality, glad I didn't spend money on 1604 for ch's I would never use, ten mic pre's is plenty!! sound quality is amazingly clear and 4 bus , just the perfect balance of what you would need for a serious centerpiece for a quality home studio
