Best move Martin has made!
Quality:
No doubt this is the best move C.F. Martin has made in some time. By offering the new D1 they have put a solid wood Martin acoustic in reach of many players who want to own a D 16 or D18 but can not afford it. This is a made in the USA high quality acoustic that would please the staunchest Martin fan. For the price you get one amazing sounding flawless acoustic that you can gig with in any setting from home to stage or studio. The price is no more than what we pay for most imports we think of as "high quality"
Reliability:
It's a Martin take care of it and it will last a life time and then some.
Overall:
A lot a great features were put into the new D1 like style 28 rosette and fingrboard markers. Also hybrid X scalloped bracing found on models like the Standard series D16 and D18. Sitka Spruce top(solid) Solid sapele(hog) back&sides. Window rattling bass response a more defined mid and high end than on Road Series models.Satin finish which lets the top vibrate more. This acoustic sounds awesome all Martin. Martin has this set up with a medium low action for medium gauge strings which stay in tune on the D1. They also give it a full deep sound much like a D18 or D16. Just awesome.
Playability and Feel:
The neck is rust Stratabond same as found on the X series. Many purists may not like this but it has a nice feel and great for large hands. Plus this neck will hold up. Great for bluegrass picking and strumming plays fast and easy.
Tone:
All Martin enough said!!
Finish:
I like the satin finish to me it gives the best sound for country/bluegrass.
Action:
Martin did a great factory set up action is medium low and the action at the nut which is more important to me was perfect. You can adjust saddle height but it takes more work to fine tune the action at the nut. This one was right on!
