General What is your overall opinion of this product? I am disappointed in the way it sounds. It is not warm and resonant. It does not fill the room the room and will not be heard by a group of singers when I lead singing at church. I guess one gets what One pays for. I am comparing this guitar to a Martin dread herringbone, with light strings that I played in 1980. I could not afford it so I bought a solid wood fender herringbone for $350, replaced the light strings with medium ones and had the sound. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? Not good for leading praise music or music where you want to vary the volume. It only plays at one volume level. Does not play grungy bass. Very tight. Its body does not have much vibration when playing. I love to rest my chin on my guitar while I am playing alone and hear my hear filled with beautiful, full chords - this one does not vibrate enough to do this - I guess this is why it does not project. Out of the box I was surprised to find it perfectly tuned, but it does not stay in tune for very long and has required continuing retuning. Probably just because of the new strings. Feel Was it easy to reach the strings? How comfortable was the playing position? The narrow neck is great for my tiny hands. I can easily reach the bass E string with my thumb while forming the D7 chord. Tone Is the tone well balanced? How does it project? The balance is great I can hear the bass without muddying the treble, but it just does not project. Even my cheep Cort has better projection. It is almost as bad as the Matin backpacker Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Great, really distinctive. I always wanted a satin back and sides. I love herringbone. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? Disappointing. My guess is that the hybrid bracing is not as good as it is advertised

General What is your overall opinion of this product? This guitar is so good! Sounds, plays, looks wonderful.I have played it along side my sons D18 and it misses nothing in comparison. I don't think there is a better American made wood guitar for the money. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? It's typical Martin quality. Feel Was it easy to reach the strings? How comfortable was the playing position? The setup was surprisingly good. Tone Is the tone well balanced? How does it project? The tone, intonation and projection are very good. Almost as good as an older Martin that has opened up. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Beautiful Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? It is all I expected plus. In my opinion it surpasses similar products by far. Playability How was the action out of the box? The setup was very very good. I was totally surprised that it was setup so well. I think Martin must be pleking all of the guitars at this point.
The kind of quality expected from Martin! Plays great and has deep warm tones much like a D28!

General What is your overall opinion of this product? I have played guitars both recreationally and in bands for over 30 years and have owned several Martins. This one is no different! Great quality right out of the box and is ready to play. No set up is even required on Martins unless it is a fluke. This guitar feels and sounds much like a D28 to me. The gloss top, herringbone rosette, and abalone fret board dots dress it up just enough to be beautiful, but the satin back and sides protect the finish from superficial scratches that are commonly found on the gloss finishes. For the price, cannot be happier with this model. Plays great, looks great, and sounds even better. From gospel to bluegrass to country to rhythm rock, it will stand up against any other brand or model and put them to shame. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? Exceptional quality that feels solid right out of the box. Feel Was it easy to reach the strings? How comfortable was the playing position? Already tuned when I received it. Had to tune it up to A tuning, but plays perfectly from the time you open the case. Tone Is the tone well balanced? How does it project? Nice deep basses, but awesome mids and highs as well make this model blend beautifully. Hard for other companies to even get close to achieving the sound that a Martin has been doing for over 50 or 60 years. Tried and true and still going strong. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Gloss top is gorgeous with the tortoise pick guard, and love the durability of the satin finish on the back and sides. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? This guitar looks, sounds, and feels like it should be more in the $2,000 range with the D28 and HD28, but for about half the price. Yeah, it's a great instrument for the money! Playability How was the action out of the box? Action is perfect. Comes with medium gauge strings that are perfect for this model and to compliment all the tones that it is designed to achieve. I always go with Martin's recommendation for each model as they are experts at pairing the right strings to each model they sell. I bought an extra set of the Martin SP medium strings so I know exactly what to replace these with when the time comes.
