Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Made here in Pennsylvania in the USA and it is not going to blind you with inlays and such ..But it is clean, neck is straight with a slight bit of relief and the new gloss top is tasteful.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have an older rosewood and sitka Standard Series they only look better and sound better with age..It is a Martin
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Had to decide on a import with a lot of nice bling and all solid wood or the new Martin D1GT. I chose the Martin because the quality is easy to see when you look the D1GT over. The sound was a big plus I thought being a Series One dread it would not have the Martin sound I was looking for. I knew it was not going to sound like a Vintage series D18GE but I was surprised when it sounded so close to a Standard Series D18.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
With the great out of the box action it plays like butter. Something you would expect form a high dollar Martin but they put that work into a all solid wood lower end model.Shows the pride Martin has in what they make.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Really not much difference from a D18 which is straight braced the D1GT has scalloped bracing. The D18 a dovetail neck the D1GT does not. But hard to tell the difference between the two. The D1GT has the woody sound you get from solid mahogany back and sides and a deep bass.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The Gloss Top is a nice addition and the finish is clean and simple.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
For one of there lees expensive all solid wood models the action was like a three times the cost Vintage Series. Perfect out of the box at the nut which almost no import is. The saddle had plenty left above the bridge for future adjustments. At the 12th fret bass E string 3/32inch and at the 12th fret high E 2/32inch with a slight amount of relief in the neck. This makes it play easy and keep a light touch.Chord changes are fast even with the Strata-bond neck which some players were concerned about. The neck looks nice and will wear like iorn.
