My Turn
Quality:
It did take a little longer to achieve a stable tuned guitar so there is a difference in quality between these strings and more expensive strings. Although with that said once I did have stable tuning on my guitar and locked down the nut it has been very stable since.
Sound:
There is a slight difference between these strings and Gibson Lights and GHS Lights in bass response in the wrapped strings (E, A, D) and no real noticeable difference in tone with the bottom three strings. I am very picky about my tone and many things affect tone of your electric guitar and one of those variables starts with your strings.
Reliability:
First set has only been on my Ibanez 770dx for a few days. Once the strings were stretched out and tuned they have maintained tuning stability.
Overall:
I received my monthly care package from AMS last week and for giggles and Ha Ha's I decided just to try the Ex Lights. I am a firm believer of ya get what ya pay for to a certain degree. So 34.00 for 10 packs is a great bargain; read on for more details. When I opened the box I have never seen in 30 years strings packaged like these strings. Only 3 paper packages per string box and two strings per paper package. Some will be cork sniffers and say only this or that brand will do; I am always looking to get that heavenly tone so I decided to purchase a 10 pack. I suggest the same to those reading this; its only a few bucks and well worth the try.
Playability and Feel:
I have been playing guitar for almost 31 years now and there is no visible difference in the way these budget strings look like compared to more expensive strings. There is a slight difference in construction of these strings at the end of these string where they are attached to the small brass ring on each string; they do not have as many wraps as more expensive strings. In my situation I do not use that end of string due to the floating bridge on my guitar; thus this part is removed when stringing up my guitars
Tone:
To my ears they sound close to another brand more expensive brand sold at AMS and other places. I am sure they would not want this revealed to the buying public but what I can suggest is this its less than 40.00 for 10 packs and little more than 3 for one pack. Purchase a few packs and try them. So far I am sold.
Finish:
They are silver and some look shiny. Some people even buy painted strings; they sell them at AMS also and yet another box that needs to be filled.
Action:
I grabbed a box while watching a Denzil Washington movie; Man on Fire and it was a really good movie with loads of action. Well ya can't leave a box empty and I have to write something.

Martin does not make junk. They are much more affordable than the XP's, they might not sound quite as good but when you tear through 3 packs a week...the price (and sound) is RIGHT with Darco!
Sound:
I love the new string sound! And they stay "New" for as long as I need them to!
Reliability:
They are tough!

I go through a LOT of strings! I play hard. Darco strings are strong, affordable and just plain Great!

Darco review
Quality:
Sound:
Bright and consistant. I can run almost a month between string changes.
Reliability:
Broken two strings over 35 years of using darco's. Put them on the guitar, stretch them and they stay in tune for ever.
Overall:
I have used Darco stings for over 35 years. They are the most consistant longest lasting stings I have ever used. They are also the best value for the money. Made by Martin. Everyone who I told about these strings become life long fans of Darco. For less than 3.00 a set, you can't go wrong.

I couldn't be more satisfied with any set of strings,Period.
Sound:
I bought my first set to do a custom job on an SG. I considered them "throw away" strings. When I tuned them up I fell in love with the tone right from the start.
Reliability:
I think they hold up quite well. I use stock vibrato's on my Strats. If you google Slacker G guitar videos you can see the Darco's in action. And they stay in tune without ANY locking hardware what so ever.
Overall:
I won't use any other strings no matter what the price. I have been using these for about 5 years now.

Nice and slinky for a 10 - 46 set. They remind me of the old Black Diamond string tone and feel from the 60's. I really liked those. But I'm keeping my Darcos.

Quality:
Top quality, well made and dependable year after year.
Sound:
The tone is excellent.
Reliability:
I actually get longer use from these strings than other brands costing three times the price.
Overall:
I was contacted in 1991 by a company distributor and asked to try these. I have used them on all my electrics values priced from $350.00 to over $5,000.00 and have bought them ever since. not to save a buck, but the action, durability and quality compares to or out performs all the higher priced name brands.
Playability and Feel:
great
Tone:
Finish:
Wouldn't know as I have never painted or stained any of my guitar strings! (joking)
Action:
I use the extra light 9's because I do a lot of sustaining bends and the action is always smooth and reliable and does not lose tone during repeated performances.
