Product Review I got yet another great deal from American Musical Supply. Bought a dent and scratch for almost $900.00 off, and for the price of a set up. I have a perfect top of the line flawless Martin HD-28. No dents no scratches, just a frett, side fileing, by my favorite luthier. ( lil humidity got the neck to shrink). Don't know about you but I will spend $60.00 to save $840.00 allday long. This is one sweet sounding, great looking, and most comfortable neck guitar, that I own. Thanks American. I have never gotten ripped off by You. This guitar arrived in two days, arrived early Sat., ordered Wednesday. Not a mark or blemish anywhere. Happy, Happy, Happy.

My Martin HD-28 is extremely well made. Not a flaw anywhere to be seen. Just bought it so can't comment on dependability. But it is a Martin, 'nuff said. n/a Your general opinion of this product. Best guitar I've ever owned in over 40 years of playing acoustics. It is like a Martin D-28 on steriods; perfectly balanced and incredibly dynamic and responsive. The slim profile makes it very easy to play. I had to lower the action and tweak the truss rod a bit though. Mellow, dark, and round. Fantastic finish, even though I already made a significant chip through it. High, had to adjust.

Listen to the Hype

Martin Quality, a company that's been around as long as Martin has got it down pat. I'm sure it will be dependable, haven't had but 3 weeks. It has the Large Grover tuners and they are sweet. I've only had it 3 weeks so far but with Martins reputation it shouldn't give me a problem. I've read that Martin has great support. Your general opinion of this product. Listen to all the Hype about this fine guitar because it's all true. The craftsmanship is Second to none. The tone is all Martin. Has deeper lows than other acoustics, crisp highs and this bad boy is loud! You don't notice it much when sitting down playing it but as soon as you listen to someone else play it you like WOW that is one loud acoustic. If you play a D-28 which there is nothing wrong with that model, then you pick up the HD-28 and play it there is a BIG difference in the volume. The neck felt funny at first just because I have been playing my 3 Elec's and was not used to an acoustic neck. But it only took about a week and now it feels like I've been playing it for years. I can't play lead on it like my elec's but that will come in time. The neck feels good with the satin finish on the back of the neck. Deep Lows and crisp highs, very loud. Deep Bass without getting boomy. Very nice, I wish it had the aged finish like the D-28V or was it the HD-28V but I'm sure this will age gracefully. It was set up like the Gibson Les Pauls are, by computer. Action was spot on. But of course Jon from MFG looked it over anyway. In the 3 weeks I have had this guitar it has not gone out of tune, I had to make a minor adjustment last night to it, thats all.

A+++ Never had a problem with this guitar. Extremely well made. Be careful with the finish on the top. They can take years to cure to a hard finish. Just a slight tap against a hard edge can put a ding in it. Not one problem. Be sure to keep the humidity constant as I have had friends who neglected their guitars and had the tops crack. With constant humidity you will have less problems with action changing. Your general opinion of this product. This guitar is amazing in every way. And the best thing is that it gets even better with time. Very easy to play. I love the neck, not too wide for me. Action is great and movement up and down the fretboard is a dream. Loud, bright, very good lows. I have a Fishman bridge pickup with an Aura Shaper. Sounds fabulous. The finish was spectacular. No flaws whatsover. The craftsmanship is as it should be. They did this one right. After 4 years with careful caretaking this guitar looks even better than the day I bought it. The finish is again perfectly to give it that vintage look. You will never look at another guitar if you buy this one. I can't recommend it enought. Mine was a bit high for my tastes and how it lowered professionally. I have it adjusted every 6 months to keep it where I want it.

The One I Have Been Waiting For

It's I bought a 1999 model and it looks like new and I can only assume is sound beeter than new. (I wasn't there) Your general opinion of this product. Back in 72 I came up just short of the $400 for the 1969 D-28. Looked and played alot of guitars and all these years later I have found the best sounding Martin I have ever played. Going from my 40 yr old Gibson J45, this neck is wider but for Flatpicking it is just right. When bringing it from the Portland, OR to Hawaii (wet hills) the action raised a bit and now that I have got the humidity down to about 50% in the case it it perfect.

Simply Delicious!!!!

Tremendous quality, I am proud of it. I know it will only get better with age. It looks extremely well made. Martin really has high quality craftsmanship and I expect this to be a lifetime guitar. It shows me they care about their guitars and the customers who play them. Your general opinion of this product. Martin Does it again! This is a truly amazing guitar. Right out of the box it felt like an old friend coming home. The rosewood on it is exceptional. If I did not know it were Indian I might mistake it for brazilian. It has BEAUTIFUL grain. Amazing playability and feel all the way up the neck The tone is incredibly balanced in this particular guitar. Though pretty cosistent in tone, some Martins are too bassy and jangly. This one is superb. Thanks AMS!! You guys are great and I could not be happier. No drips, bubbles, runs, orange peel or any undesirable spots. High quality once again. This is why Martin is so loved by so many players I seriously think the action is great right where it is. While that may change with time I will wait a while for it to settle in. I love the way it plays, the shape of the neck and the matte finish on the back of the neck.

The Hype Is All True! The HD-28 Is AWESOME

By: ProFromDover      Submitted: 11/26/2008

Well built and nicely appointed model, as one would expect from Martin. I just got it today, but it's a Martin, isn't it? They hold up well if you care for them properly. (I have a 1974 D12-18 still going strong!) Your general opinion of this product. I never actually believed I would own an HD-28 but the lure of American Musical's ridiculously low "dent-n-scratch" price twisted my arm into buying it, and I am so pleased with my purchase! Low Profile neck feels and plays great. The modified V on the vintage series is a bit easier (I also have a 00-18V) but no complaints here. As others have reviewed exhaustively, perfect balanced, even tone. Great sustain, clear trebles, solid bass but not booming like the D-35. Although this was sold as "dent-n-scratch" it was in nearly perfect condition. Just a tiny ding on the side on the lower bout. Also a few slight finish swirls on the top and back, but I'll bet these come off when I eventually apply some Martin polish. I must say I was skeptical when I saw how low this was being sold for as a dent-n-scratch -- over $300 less for d&s on the "big box" sites for the same model. All I can say is you can buy a dent-n-scratch from American Musical with confidence! Martin factory action is fast. Plays great! A little buzz on the lower E when laying on it REALLY hard. Could be the strings have been on for a while. Planning to re-string with Martin MSP4100's, the next gauge down.

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!

Your general opinion of this product. I've been playing guitar now for over 30 years and still no acoustic comes close to a Martin HD-28. Great rhythm, finger picking and flat picking guitar. The sound is awesome across the dynamic range. Recording engineers love them because they're very easy to EQ and mike and have a rich, warm tone. Stick with Elixer strings and you'll have an awesome combination. I recently added a Schertler Bluestick undersaddle pickup and couldn't be happier with the sound. I'm currently playing folk, Celtic, and bluegrass styles and it performs equally as well within each. Most of all, I like the comments: "Wow, a Martin!" to which I reply, "Yeh, just my knock-around guitar." :) Get one and you won't be sorry.

Your general opinion of this product. Nothing sounds like a Martin and the HD-28 is no exception. Dreadnought guitars were invented and named by Martin guitars. All other guitars are spin-offs of this fabulous original.Rich, warm and vibrant, there is simply no guitar to match it any any price.A best value acoustic guitar, and reliable for life.

OVERALL:
This is my first Martin guitar,,,been playing for over 30 years..Bluegrass & Country. When you walk up to a group of jammers..they will notice the case,(and believe me..they ALWAYS notice!) and make a spot for you in the circle..no matter what your skill levil is. You will just play better with a Martin..part of it is the quality of craftmanship..part of it is the superb sound, but the other part is the way you feel when you are playing an HD-28! When you carry a Martin, you carry the BEST!

My wife and I went to our local Guitar dealer to "window shop". I was blind-sided by her holding a HD-28 and asking "I know this is not a D-28, but would you be happy with this?". Happy was, and still is an understatement. I am blown away by the sound of this Guitar. I will own this Guitar until they lay me in the ground. The quality, workmanship, and value can't be overstated. If this guitar was stolen or destroyed I would purchase another......as soon as I could save up enough money.

SHOULD HAVE GOT IT LONG AGO

Your general opinion of this product.

THE VOLUME IS THE 1ST THING THAT YOU NOTICE. THIS GUITAR HAS VOLUME. I KNEW AFTER HEARING THE FIRST CHORD THAT THIS WAS THE REAL THING. THE TREBLE RINGS CLEAR, THE BASS IS DEEP, YET EACH STRING RINGS WITH ITS OWN VOICE. THE HD-28 IS THE BEST SOUNDING RHYTHM GUITAR THAT I HAVE HEARD SINCE I GOT THE FEVER ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO. IT IS A SIMPLE LOOKING GUITAR WITH SIMPLE STYLE BUT HAS QULITY WRITTEN ALL OVER IT.

YOU CAN SPEND ALOT OF MONEY ON A FANCY GUITAR BUT YOU CAN NOT BUY A BETTER SOUNDING ACOUSTIC GUITAR THAN THE MARTIN HD-28 AT ANY PRICE.
