What is your overall opinion of this product?
This is the best sounding analog synth for under $1000, bar none. High quality sound, great build, nice feel. HUGE FREAKIN' BASS!
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Made in America, and shows it. Great build quality for its price.
Ease of Use
How user friendly is it? Would it work well for a beginner, intermediate or experienced player?
It's pretty easy to use, but two things to realize:
1) The oscillators start to distort at level 6. If you're used to maxing them, you'll find that the sound will get a bit broken up and distorted (which is great if you want it, but troubling if you're not expecting it). You have to carefully balance the oscillator volume levels for optimum sound.
2) Some of the extra programming features are in hidden key-controlled menus. A bit of a pain to use, but fortunately they're not the kind of setting that you need to get into too often.
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
I was really surprised at how good and huge the sound could be. With the right settings, it's probably the best bass machine at any price.
How is the sound quality? How does the sound compare to other products you've use?
Smooth, creamy, rich. Moog.
How is the feel of the keys? Are the controls laid out well?
Layout and build is really good and easy to use.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
While it might not have the multi-mode filters or complex oscillator settings of other synths, the Sub Phatty beats them all in pure quality.
