Best for the money, even for windows!
Calirecorder from California
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
This device is very well made. I came from using M-audio, E-Mu, and presonus interfaces and soundcards, and this device feels much more solid in comparison. The ins and outs are all gold-plated, the cooling vent is very well placed compared to any piece of rack gear i have bought in years! My only concern is the tiny switches on the front-left side, just below the built-in preamps.
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
By far, this interface has more features then anything else i have found in this price range. I'll just bring up a few of my favorites. The +4 in/out and operating level is by far the best feature. This is the headroom your local professional studio has. The all-balanced in/out is the next best feature. On top of the 11.8Db of extra headroom compared to any consumer pro-tools setup, you get an extra 6db out of your pro gear (if it has balanced in/out as well). These were the features that sold me, but what has come in very handy is the DSP effects, especially for vocals while recording!. They also allowed me to get great eq and compression on every track, something my off the shelf windows based laptop couldn't handle by itself.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
I put a disk in the drive, went through the install, and in maybe 20 minutes had something recording in Sonar(Windows Vista 32bit). I do have to admit the downside to pretty much any piece of music gear, especially recording gear with a ton of features it will be very hard to learn how to operate. However the Cumix software makes up for the front panel, which is very hard to operate and navigate. you can save custon mixes on the computer, then the presets are only a few button presses away, if you want to use it live..
Value
Was this item an overall good value?
It works good on a $400 off the shelf laptop, and macbook pro, logic and sonar, and cubase.. has DSP, and is the only interface i could find that runs in truly professional db levels, sampling rates, and bit depth for the money. yeah, this is an easy 5*****

Well made, durable. Pretty looking. In Windows, if you want to sit down and record, plan on an additional 2-5 DAYS to get this thing working. Listen to what I am saying. IF YOU ARE A WINDOWS USER, STAY AWAY FROM THIS POS. The drivers are just terrible, MOTU support is the worst. Do not even answer your requests. Phone number constantly busy. You need special Firewire chipsets (TI). Just do a search for this product and read the motunation.com message boards. If I can save one person from buying this product, I will be satisfied.

When it did connect, Cuemix allows for multiple setups. A little confusing.
