Love it.....perfect for smaller studio spaces.
What is your overall opinion of this product?
Great build. Full size Maschine would have been better, but turned out to be the right size for me. Also, includes full version of Massive($200 value) and Komplete Elements($50 value), and this is not to be underestimated on how useful these are.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
First of all, plastic and aluminum casing but built like a tank(albeit a light weight one). Mine has already taken a spill, a couple days in, with no ill effects. Pads are almost as good, or maybe as good as, those on Akai products(and I am a big Akai fan, which is a big deal for me. If the pads don't feel good, you won't want to use it, and to me the pads feel great. The included sounds(including those in Massive and Komplete Elements) will offer an excellent starting point for any type of music.
Ease of Use
How user friendly is it? Would it work well for a beginner, intermediate or experienced player?
I would say this is beginner to mid-intermediate. Most upper intermediate to advanced musicians will want the full Maschine, unless they like working in the software more. I find it to be very intuitive to use, and the software is laid out very similarly to Ableton Live(my current DAW software) so getting used to it has a learning curve, but only in working out what does what on the hardware. The software is straight forward. The controls for the screen on the hardware take a bit of getting used to, but I picked it up in only a few days, so you have to play around with it a bit.
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
Loaded with features, and I haven't found them all yet. That said, everything I need is on here, and I am making this my mobile pad controller as well. I can't say what my favorite features are yet since I am still learning the device, but I am certain I will be able to do anything I need to be able to in my home studio with this.
How is the sound quality? How does the sound compare to other products you've use?
Personally, I think the sounds NI has are better than the ones Akai uses in their MPC line. I used iMaschine and Akai iMPC to compare before buying to make sure I chose the right product and for me, Native Instruments won out. Maschine and Maschine Mikro can also import REX, WAV, and AIFF files along with MPC projects, so it is very easy to expand.
How is the feel of the pads and controls? Are the controls laid out well?
Pads feel great. Controls take getting used to, and have a slight learning curve, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
More than I was expecting. It is more functional than the Akai MPC Fly-30(for iPad 2 30 pin), and I would say comparable to the functionality of both the full sized Maschine(only a few controls, a screen, and midi i/o are missing between the two...aside from the stand compatiblity and customization(purely aesthetic)) and the Akai MPC Studio. However, it comes with Massive($200 value), Komplete Elements($50 value), and a $30 voucher(by email, good for 3 months) for use on Maschine Expansions or Komplete Instruments, so that means for $350, you get an added value of $280. Also, as I mentioned before, almost any sound library on the market is fully compatible, so it is hard to see how this isn't a must buy, unless you opt to buy a full sized Maschine.
Never used a beat machine in my life!!!

Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
This product is made very well! It is light weight but very dependable, you don't even have to use much pressure on the pads or knob.
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
The best feature of this product would have to be the library! So many sounds and groups to choose from you will never get bored or run out of creative options.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
This is the kicker! I have never used a beat machine EVER and I am a second semester Audio Engineering student at the local community college with not much experience with music production at all so the learning curve was very steep for me BUT the start up guide, manual and tutorials had me playing with the maschine in no time! It has been 3 months since I purchased the machine mikro mk2 and I am going step by step through the tutorials so I would say I am progressing pretty smooth but it does take a while to learn the ins and outs and to be able to make a pattern without referring back to the tutorials. I must say one thing that did stop me in my tracks was the fact that I couldn't find MASSIVE which is one of the early steps in the guide, nobody told me that the link to add it to the software was e mailed to my inbox the day after I purchased it so beware of that. All in all this maschine is GREAT and well worth the time and effort it takes to get good with it! Learning curve steep!
How is the tone?
Tones are good, ZERO complaints on this end.
Your general opinion of this product.
This product is truly truly AWESOME! After a day or so of playing around with this thing I began asking myself what else could I possibly need since machine has everything all sounds, instruments and plug ins! Highly pleased with this machine! I have never even touched any other beat machine and i probably never will! I don't see how they could possible compare to native instruments products at all! GREAT product! Get it, you wont be sorry! Oh BTW don't purchase without software/installation disk! That would be totally pointless!
Was this item an overall good value?
