Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The key action is fantastic! The drum pads are crap. The knobs feel a little flimsy, and some of them aren't centered quite right. It boasts of a 'huge LCD screen' but really it's pretty small, and hard to look at after a while. Still, glad I purchased it. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? Tons of them! I'm not too sold on Automap, but the numbers of knobs sliders and buttons on this thing makes pretty much anything possible. I wish it had 9 sliders instead of 8. Many of the buttons are specifically for the Automap feature and can't be used otherwise--kind of a bummer there. Another annoyance is that the transport buttons are right below a row of assignable buttons. Doesn't seem like a big deal at first--until you realize that if your finger slips during a gig and instead of triggering your loop, or whatever, you accidentally hit the stop button. Well, that would be a train wreck. Ease of Use How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be? Why do companies build complex pieces of gear, and then write useless manuals? The manual for the SL MKll is 30 some odd pages, big print, double spaced, with some pictures, and almost no in depth information on anything. Some subjects are 'covered' in one or two vague lines. Some things aren't even covered at all. Think you are going to go to the Novation forum and ask a question? Forget it. Their user forum is a ghost town. I bought this keyboard a week ago, and have spent hour upon hour trying to learn how to access functions that should be dealt with in the manual with more that a few lines--but alas. With that said, I think once I finally figure it out it will be worthwhile because this thing is loaded with great features. Currently I am bombarding customer service with emails. Be prepared to spend hours googling the subjects you can't find in the manual. Value Was this item an overall good value? Aside from the hours I've spent trying to learn some pretty basic functionality on this thing, instead of making music, I am happy that I bought it. And AMS payment plan makes it a snap.
