What is your overall opinion of this product?
The Peavey Session is a 5-star guitar in its price range. It is easy on the body at about 7 pounds. It feels and sounds solid and well built.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
The Peavey Session is a high quality guitar in its price range. Fit and finish are excellent. Frets are smooth and even. Controls are smooth and responsive. Tuners very good.
It sounds great heavy to clean. Adjusting controls brought in twang, mellow woody tones, and clear chords. It sounds punishing at high gain overdrive.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The guitar is lighter than most due to the chambered basswood body. However it feels solid all around.
The neck is fast feeling and familiar. All frets fit well.
The pickup switch is nicely out of the way but accessible. Controls are placed well.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The pickups dirty up and clean up great. Clean tones from mellow jazz to twangy. With heavy distortion it is tight and articulate. It also sustains well.
It tends to the bright side, but I did not find that in all settings.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish was excellent. No flaws from my untrained eye. No sloppiness either. The wood binding is better looking than cream or white.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I got more than I expected at this price. I own several mid priced and a few high quality pro guitars. This feels more like a pro guitar than I expected.
How was the action out of the box?
The action was low. It needed a proper setup, but was pretty good out of the box.
