I got it a Month ago and i seems built like a tank i`ve also had a Peavy Bandit for like about 4 years and it still works like new so maybe the ValveKing will last for ever.

Sound real good but i'm planing to change the speakers to some Eminence Governors.....or maybe NOT because once the VK speakers brake in they sound pretty good..... ADD casters they will help you because the amp is like 45 pounds.

Great tube tone at an affordable price!

Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
It is very well made.

I gave it a 4 here because I played mine for 6 days and a tube blew out and caused a short. But considering all the shipping bumps and such, and the inherent semi-delicacy of vacuum tubes, I was not surprised.

I am very pleased with this amp overall, and would buy another if needed.

This is a HEAVY amplifier for an old road house bum like me to haul around. I installed a set of Ernie ball pop-out casters on it before I even turned it on.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tone is so subjective, but you can pull almost anything out of this amp, from sweet Fender-like clean to down and dirty grunge. I found the texture control on the back to be very useful for dialing in a good tube tone. The dirty channel is not as bluesy as I like but I simply added a tube screamer and can get very good sounds from it.

Valve King 212. A good amp for the professional musician.

I think the amp is well built. I have owned Peaveys for years and miss my old Peavey Duece from the 1970's. The Valve King is different from the old peaveys, more modern. The tone is still there that only tubes can produce.

This is my second valveking 212 and the first one never failed once, but this one is still pretty new.

Ihave owned Peaveys since the 1970's and have always been able to use them at home and on stage. They are well constructed and reliable. For a working musician the price is resonable.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
I start with Bass, Mid, and treble set in the middle(12 oclock) I turn reverb, resonance, presence, off. I start the gain at the lowest setting and add from there, keeping in mind for classic rock, too much muddies up the voicings when playing chords. I also use presence sparingly, because it adds high frequencies. Ok for cutting through a mix, but can be less warmth of too much is used. I also use reverb sparingly, like salt or pepper. The bigger the room the less I use. If I need more chunk I add bass. More voice or need to be heard better, I might add some mids. The treble or bright switch is used for those high end frequencies but carefully. Too much and the tone thins out. The A/B knob on the back controls tube power percentages, basically to keep from being too technical, the far clockwise or A/B side is louder and full headroom. The more you turn the knob toward the class A settings you can lose up to 60 percent power, but amp tone breaks up, producing ear pleasing distortion

At 100 watts the Valveking is enough power for any size job. Tone-Wise the amp sings at about 70 percent on the volume side, and has plenty of sustain at lower volumes, and on the clean side. This amp sounds like a monster when cranked. Heavy modern sounds can be achieved with the gain way up, say 80 percent. Most modern players must realize that when they suck out the mids, and have the gain set too high they can be lost in the mix. I think this accounts for some complaints of the amp sounding muddy at high volume. Back off the gain, add some mids, and use those effects pedals sparingly, like salt and pepper, especially in those big open places.

The fit and finish are excellent.

I think the tubes need to heat up and break in for several hours of use, before they produce the smooth musical tones most tube players crave.

It seems to be made fairly well. I dont perceive any problems.
Reliability

Well, my fist one had a reverb section issue. It generated noise in the first couple of days so it went back.

Great tone, nice and balanced. sweet cleans, sweet crunch, even sweet high gain, which was unexpected. Built like a tank, dont pick it up if you have back problems!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The amp is rigid, sturdy, bare bones, yet soulful. The dynamics of tube amps are present in this smp
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The tone is very rich. Harmonics come out easily, you know those rich overtones that quality amps have. Fell in love with the clean tone. I replaced a Fender Blues Deluxe with this. If you can believe it, I actually prefer the Valvekings clean channel to the Fender! The gain channel is loads better than the Fenders. I cannot begin to explain the difference.. Night and Day. super clean channel, super gain channel, plays quietly even at low volumes! Audio taper pots! this amp gets louder bit by bit, where as the Fenders are linear pots and are at full volume at level 2. Thats a bad design from Fender! Costs less than the Fender Hot Rods, and way more useable tones.
