The Meters WILL FAIL On This Unit - MASSIVE DESIGN FLAW
By: Unhappy PreSonus User from Bainbridge, Georgia USA
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Not made well AT ALL. I am about to have to get my 6th unit. My studio DEPENDS on this, and unfortunately, the features and sound quality make it such that, I cannot function without this unit, however, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE BUYING IT. I wish I had never centered my audio routing infrastructure around this unit, because now, I have a work flow that has THIS UNIT as a weak link, and like clock work, the unit will go bad, predictably and reliably. Pretty bad when you can only depend on the unit GOING BAD. IF you DO buy it, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TURN IT OFF, because when you turn it back on, the METERS WILL NOT WORK. PreSonus makes such a big deal about how great the metering and calibration capability is, but, bottom line, if the meters FAIL after your FIRST SESSION, and you turn it on the next day when you come back in to work, and you've got NO METERING, THAT IS A PROBLEM!!! Design flaw, BIGTIME...
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
Audio quality and feature set / audio routing capability are AMAZING...Too bad the meters die after the first session...
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
Super easy to use...Self explanatory...Until you spend all night scratching your head trying to sweet talk, cajole, beg and pray for the meters to start working again, as you toggle the unit on and off, over and over again, hoping that by some miracle, the meters will begin working again...
How is the tone?
Excellent sound quality...
How has it stood up over time?
Reliability is NON-EXISTENT. What you can RELY on is the METERS FAILING...
Your general opinion of this product.
Pretty obvious at this point what I think...Don't buy it...If I had it all to do over again, I would have done a different studio design so as to NOT HAVE to use this unit, and the INSTANT I find a unit with the SAME routing features, mountable in one rack space, so that I don't have to change my speaker and monitoring scenario, I will be pulling this unit out of service and throwing it in the river...or maybe make a YouTube video of me setting it on fire, or shooting it with my 9mm, or bombing it with an M-80 or something...SERIOUSLY!!! 5 units ALL gone bad with the SAME EXACT PROBLEM - DEAD METERS...Do we not smell the engineering flaw here?
