Incredible Acoustic Guitar studio Mic Solution
Fingerpick from Ashland, Oregon
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Not real good on live stage (feedback) but in a decent studio room or even a small quiet room, your solo recordings will be state of the art amazing and again amazingly realistic spacially (did I mention incredible spatial character).
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
We have tried nearly every mic and/or combinations thereof for recording acoustic guitars. Nothing compares to both the sound quality and ease of placement that the Rode NT4 exhibits. For even more ear candy, plug it into a stereo tube preamp then mixing board. Even without the pre this mic is truly a must have. Really clean and rich all by itself. Spacious sound to die for when placed axis horizontal, perfect balance between low and high strings when placed axis vertical. And any combo angle (rotate it) thereof gives amazing flexibility to deal with acoustic guitars that may have hot spots.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
It also performs incredibly well for those who may wish to do one take vocal and acoustic guitar recordings. Placing this mic just below the chin and about 12 inches away, it picks up both the vocal and instrument in ways that performers usually can only dream of. The airy spacial quality in this application is unmatched.
Sound
How is its Tone?
A better pop filter design is our only wish but we have lots of those that will adapt. Irreplaceable for the discerning player and recordist, especially for those who insist on the emotional feel of a live performance recording without the distraction of audience noise. Better than singing in the shower with a pretty woman and your guitar stays dry, except for perhaps drooling joy the sound in your headphones will produce. A cardiac treat.
