Nice addition to live performance!

Your general opinion of this product.
Overall, Roland has built another beautiful product. Simple connectivity, intuitive functionality and solid mounting option make this sampler a must have for any drummer wanting to add more sound to an existing acoustic kit.
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
The device is constructed of high density plastic. The soft touch buttons and rubber knobs are really nice. I have hit the plastic numerous times with the barrel of my sticks with not so much as a scratch left behind. Over time, that may change due to wear and tear, but, that's a drummers life. The trigger pads are TRUE Roland build; the best in the business, in my opinion. They have a really nice feel and are super responsive.
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
For me, I love the optional mount for attaching this device to my acoustic kit. The ability to adjust the skew and angle makes for precise placement within my footprint. The triggers have very nice playability and respond well to many rudiments. The software that ships with the unit is intuitive when adding and removing sounds, and it takes no time to learn how to use it. Adding two more voices to the two available would expand this device exponentially and having more memory for more sounds would be a plus. However, as it ships, it performs well if you understand what it is to be used for. It is a sampler, not a drum machine. It is an ADDITION to an existing kit or DJ setup. If you are looking to create beats, look elsewhere.
How is the tone?
The sounds that come loaded from the factory are of good quality. However, I only played with them for the first few days after receiving the unit. The sounds that shipped did not fit my musical genre. Most drummers will find this to be true and will start loading up their own sounds pretty quickly. There are a plethora of available samples on line to upload to this device. I find myself recording my own sounds and using them more than anything else. This unit does NOT record directly. Meaning, there are no microphones on the device and there is no mic input. You must record sounds on another system and then either upload via a computer OR use the handy dandy USB memory slot on the back panel.
Once again, true Roland. It's a beautiful box. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Was this item an overall good value?
I think the SX was a good deal. It fits well with what I was expecting and adds another aspect to the music that I like to perform.
