Seymour Duncan is one of the two biggest names in pups, so it better be good! So far so good. As well as you properly install it you should have no issues. Your general opinion of this product. I put this pickup in my Ibanez SZ720 to replace the Duncan designed stock pickup and it was great improvement! From what I hear these pickups are very responsive to the guitar it's installed in. I put it in a maple-topped mahogany guitar and it definitely "filled out" the sound I had before.

Similar to EMGs, but not quite there...

The Blackout seems well-made enough. I noticed the exposed circuit board on the underside of the p/u, which makes me think they shaved a few bucks off of the price by not sealing it like EMG does. Overall, I'm sure it will last as long as you don't spill beer on it. I've only used for a couple days, so I can't say much yet about reliability. Your general opinion of this product. I think Duncan has done a nice job trying to compete with EMG, but for my taste, the sound was a little too bassy for me (see Tone question). It was very easy to wire up with the quick-connect option. Took 5 minutes to replace my EMG85 pickup. To give a frame of reference, I'll compare with my EMG81 and EMG85. Right off, I noticed that the output of the Blackout was considerably higher than the 81 or 85. This was great for leads but broke up clean channels very easily. Overall, the tone was similar to the EMG85 except for the higher output and larger bass response. In fact, it was a little too bassy for my taste, but the other frequencies seemed almost identical to the 85. Arrived in good condition. I set pickup height to ~1/8" below the depressed low-E string.
