I got this to try out over the hype I’d seen on YT in hopes of it being the be all end all of pups but unfortunately I didn’t hear any clarity nor definition in these humbuckers. I’m not mad, a bit disappointed yes but off they went back to SD for a 21 day exchange for something I have installed on my other guitars, SD Mayhem set. Those puppies burn like I love hearing a defined clear chug whether I’m tuned to E or dropped Z the tightness is there when I need it. So ultimately, I wouldn’t recommend it for hair rock/metal or thrash gallop chugging. Happy hunting in your tone!

Sure these are designed for metal, and they excel at that. But the overall versatility of these pickups are amazing! I put them into an ESP and split coiled. I will most likely replace every pickup set with these. I've recorded metal, jazz, and country with the Black Winters and couldn't be happier. They are hit, but clean up very nice. Seymour Duncan may have made their best pickups to date with these hidden gems.

Love these pickups!!! Turned crappy amp distortion to heavy metal crunch with no problems!!!! Super easy to install, with just a little bit of soldering, I used the 2 wire method since I’m not bit on the push/ pull pots. But man what a difference they made!!! Can’t wait till I get my Metal Zone Waza, I bet they’ll burn the house down then!!!! Straight up ????????

BadASS, has a slight bit of noise to it that comes through in my recordings even with the best noise gate. But overall it kicks some serious butt.

Metal to the core. Seymour Duncan created the best with these pickups. Surprisingly clean up well. More versatile than people give them credit for. AMS got them to me quick and I was up running in no time.

These pick ups are fantastic for any metal guitar player! I have been an EMG guy for a long time, not the case anymore! Almost all my guitars have the Black Winters in them and all future guitars will as well!

The name isnt the only thing that is awesome about this pickup! It is by far the most powerful thing I have ever had in my hands! In your face sound with perfect balance of high, mids and lows that I have been searching for for over 30 years! At. Seymour Duncan; you can shut down your R. And D lab you've done it!
