In all my use cases, be it personal or for my work, I always use and recommend Shure products. I've never had a bad experience with a Shure product. The Shure SM58 has been around as long as I can remember and far beyond too that I’m certain.
My dad used them in his touring days, I’ve used them in mine as well. Of all the equipment you can count on, the SM58 has to be the most tested and used mic ever made and is still being used by elite bands all over the world.
I have several of these, but I’ve had one since the 90’s and it still works perfect.
There aren’t enough good things you can say about these microphones.

When I say it goes good with, I mean almost exactly the same characteristics as my (plastic?) Shure PG58 mike. Not that I've had any trouble with it. Heck, my Green Bullet from the 80s still works great! But I did a stereo recording project and used both the PG and the SM to record L & R channels from a pair of hi-fi speakers, and the curves were virtually indistinguishable from each other in mono mode. The only difference I could see, other than the metal body of the SM58, which might hold up better if you're Roger Daltrey, is the placement of the element. In the PG58, the element sticks out quite a bit further from the body of the mike, while the element in the SM58 is firmly embedded in the body. I think there is a very slight difference in the frequency response, but only a few db. I would count on either for a stage gig.

I tour non-stop across America. performing more than 150 shows per year and this is my go to vocal mic. In fact, I keep three on hand in my touring rig at all times just in case. The microphones are top of the line which my blues power trio was in Dyer need of.
We played show a couple of weeks ago and our old mic's were very distorted, kept cutting in an out.

As a stage mic it's forgiving when trying to record audio in open environments as it does ignore background noise fairly well. It does seem to come at the sacrifice in vocal definition. It doesn't exactly pick up some vocal characteristics like a studio microphone would. I found it often made vocals sound spacey. Clear yes very much so but but you sound like you're standing on a concert stage even if you're just in a small room with this mic. I'm still making adjustment to using it as it's just a practice/song idea mic but with some time and the right setup it could be powerful enough to do real recording with.

Vocals, acoustic instruments, amplifiers, percussion, strings, brass...it doesn’t matter. An SM-58 will handle the job. And for a very long time. I’ve heard jokes about driving nails with them.
They are the best overall mic you can find.
Personally, I love their proximity effect, they can really warm a voice if you get close. Looking for something that can make a baritone sound out, this mic does it. But if you stay an inch from it, everything sounds neutral.

For years my duo -- The Noral Twins (www.noralroy.com and www.facebook.com/noraltwins -- has been using inexpensive mics for our vocals. I researched the SM58 and found it to be the industry standard with a vocal-friendly EQ built in. And I was surprised to find that it wasn't expensive. So I bought two SM58s for our duo. I got this Shure SM58 mic in a package but, when I went to review the package it brought me only to the mic page. The mic is solid and sounded Great when I spoke on it! It sounded pretty powerful. The mic came with a mic holder and a shure leather zipper pouch to put the mic in. The cable seems good. I had ordered the package on back order. The mic stand came later. It's okay because the stand and cable was a bonus. I was happy that it was the mic that arrived first so, I could use it in a gig last weekend. The stand holds the mic okay. As long as it's not touched it should do a good job holding the mic. I am happy with my Shure Mic Package purchase and I will recommend buying it!

I’ve always wanted an SM-58 due to everyone I know that uses one are very happy with them, and let’s face it: SM-58’s sound the best for live situations, and can hold up well in studio situations. However, I always settled for the cheaper 48’s, as playing in a rowdy Ska/Punk band from my late teens to late 20’s, microphones would take a lot of abuse, especially from the singer of the band and other bands we would play house party gigs with, or bar shows that required the bands to provide a sound system. Now that I no longer play in as rowdy as a band, and I prefer to use my own microphone at any venue I play at (especially during cold and flu season), and sold off all of my PA gear last year, and now needing a system, I decided to finally buy an SM-58. This thing sounds great right out of the box. I have a cheaper PA setup( Gemini AS12P powered speaker and a Harbinger LVL L1202FX mixer) and this mic still sounds amazing running out of that! I’ll be buying another one soon!

Product Review
The Shure SM 58 seams like a well built Microphone , but I cannot speak as to it's function due to the lack of a cable to connect it to the amp. In my opinion, no microphone should be shipped without one. If it increases the price, so be it. At least I would be able to use it and ascertain the quality of it's performance. True, I did not see that the "Pick a Model " had a more expensive option, but the product description should have the suggestion of purchasing the NON- INCLUDED cord separately. As a matter of fact, it would have done me little good to order the combination of the cord/stand due to the fact that the cord would have come without the phone plug needed to plug into my amp. In my humble opinion , I believe this to be a blatant attempt to increase the purchase price of a complete microphone ready for use out of the box . It is quite possible that professional performers might be aware of this situation, but the average novice such as I was extremely disappointing to discove

Shure quality,nothing more be said on this one.A sloid build top to bottom.Built to last and take a beating and still work just fine.
The pickup pattern is tailored for use with vocals and this unis is even better than my Shure SM58.It just has that nice peak presence at about 2-4kHz which helps it shine thru the mix without the proximity effect you get with most mics as this mic rolss off at about 100hz.
Plug and play right out of the box,altough the owners manuel is very informative if not to the point.Short and sweet,just how I like it.
Not only does this mic just perfect for vocals it works well with other sound sources as well.I use this mic on my acoustic guitar and piano and even my Mandolin and it just has that sweet spot to it.

Yes, it's build to last as its rep have proven for many years.
This mic is build solid and is easy to maintain.

These are tanks! I own 3 and I've never had a problem. I've had to replace 2 grills since they were looking a little rough, but they all still work perfectly.
The best feature... the microphone!
Plug in an XLR and there you go.
Great sound for live situations. I wouldn't recommend recording clean vocals or instruments with these, but I have recorded heavily effected vocals with these on a few occasions when I was in a pinch.

It's dependable, and reliable; I've had several for many years. The oldest is about 30 years old. It's been dropped a few times, but it keeps on ticking.
Durability is the best feature. I wouldn't change a thing.
It's ready to go, nothing to learn.
Tone is rich, but sometimes you loose the low notes in your vocals.

I consider all of Shure's microphones to be TOP-GRADE quality. They only make the best - and that is the truth.
The overall sound quality is superb
This product needs no manual. You just stick your microphone in the mic stand-plug in and start singing or recording instruments. It's E-Z as pie.
The tone quality for the Shure SM 58 stands in a league of its own. I have been recording with this mic since I received my 1st 4-track recorder in high school - and when I look at the price of the microphone today - it is the SAME price today as it was BACK THEN!!! WOW! Thats gotta tell you something?!?!?

SM 58 can take it!Twirling my sm58 at the end of a 20' cord. It come off rocketed thru 2 sheets of drywall and hit a 2x4 stud. I pulled it out, plugged it in and acted like nothing happened. oh yeah !

IMO this is the BEST stage mic, soon as I got it, the singer was teaching me how the harmony would go, I turned around and down it went, I thought nothing of it cuz I KNOW it is built like a TANK!! Thanks again for the best all around mic EVER.

I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS MIC FOR A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AND IT IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED. MY SINGING PARTNER HAS THE SAME ONE AND HE HAS HAD NO PROBLEMS. WE TRIED THEM BOTH OUT ON FRIDAY THE 29TH AND IT SOUNDED GREAT.
IT HAS AN ON/OFF SWITCH, WHICH MY PARTNERS DOES NOT,(HE IS LEAD SINGER) SO THAT MAKES IT CONVENIENT WHEN I AM NOT SINGING.

These mikes are very durable. They're built to take a beating and still deliver great sound
I ordered model SM58S with the on/off switch, which comes in handy when taking breaks
They're simple to use, just plug-and-play (or plug-and-sing). The manual has basic mike info.
The overall sound is very good. They're a little basey, but still clear as a bell. They seem to limit feedback and don't break up at any range

This is THE BEST microphone that I have ever owned or worked with, and I have worked with a lot of mics. This is one of the only mics I will ever use in a live performance for vocals.
Very wide range of pickup, good for choirs, or chorus mics. On/Off switch very useful too.

I've used the the SM 58 for nearly 30 years now, and it is as they say, "built to take it." These mics take a beating, and keep performing gig after gig.
Apart from being dependable, the mic just "feels" right. If there is any room for improvement, it would be to make the replacement screen a little less expensive.
It's a mic, pretty simple concept.
The tone is great. I had an argument recently with a house sound guy who hated Shure products, and favored EV mics. I said okay, whatever, but of course, I thought my mic sounded better, especially for my raspy pipes!

The SM58 is a heavy duty, well built microphone. The On/Off switch is a must have for me. The sound is awesome and I give it my highest recommendation. You don't want to miss this one!!!
The On/Off switch is paramount. The SM58 handles well and it is built rock solid. Again the sound is awesome.
It is "out of the box" easy. Take it out of the box, hook it up your monster cable, plug the monster into a Mackie mixer, add a few Mackie speakers and you are set. No need to read any manuals, nor does it take any time to learn.
OUTSTANDING!!! I am an entertainer and perform as Elvis, Sinatra, Newton, Diamond, and Humperdink. My voice has to be dead on and this microphone is a must have for me.

The absolute best all-around mic available. Another guy in my band has had his since the mid-80's!
Great frequency response. Very clear mic for vocals.
Extremely easy to use. Just plug it in. That's it. I prefer this model over the model with the switch. Less possibilities for something to go wrong.
The best tone I could find for a live vocal mic. Nothing else really compares.

I have 3 Sm-58's, you know how they sound. The first I bought 31 years ago, the other 2 are 14 years old: they all sound the same, great! No failures, no problems. Have used them all 5 nights a week for all these years. Features? It's a stage mic, you plug it in it works, what else do you need? Since 1971 I've spent over $125,000 on stage equipment. These are probably the best equipment value I've ever bought!!

Excellent sound quality - what'd you expect? Shure has a reputation to uphold. Whether I use it on my smaller practice PA or the larger on-stage system, it behaves like a pro! Good mikes aren't cheap, but this one is excellent and inexpensive!
SOUND:
You might be surprised how many famous recordings were made with this mike and the SM57. Sounds well balanced for both live PA use and studio recording as well. Not just for vocals, makes an outstanding guitar cabinet and drum mike also.

33+ years of playing, recording, producing, experimenting!!
OVERALL:
Top rating. I don't think it would be possible to improve on this mike. If it aint broke, don't fix it! If it vanished, I'd have to buy another.
