General Your general opinion of this product. I am new to recording and I must say a little hesitant on whether I would be able to use it. Turns out to be an easy learning experience. This is the easiest recorder to learn on and the sound quality is great! Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? It is very well put together. I love the physical sliders and knobs. So much easier than the software studios I was going to try.Seems very sturdy. Everything is tight, even the buttons. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? Very easy learning curve. If I can use it, anybody can. Sound How is the tone? This is the best part. With very little messing around,I was able to put together a few tracks, mix them, and master with excellent results. Very clear and full sound. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Don't know yet as I just got it.

General Your general opinion of this product. This is an impressive little multi trak recorder, capable of studio quality recordings at a budget price. I have been doing pro studio work for the past 30 years, and today's array of home studio multi trak recorders continues to amaze me...and could have saved thousands of dollars in studio fees in the process if I had one years ago. This unit makes incredibly professional recordings for the price of a few stomp boxes. The finished CD which can be burned directly in this unit without the need for a computer is really top notch. I had another older version of the Tascam and it was much more expensive. Yet the CD always sounded distorted and the volume was low. But this unit makes and burns nearly perfect CD's. Very impressed with this one. Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? It is mostly plastic, but if you don't drop it and you treat it gently, it should be fine. The sound is killer and the recordings are pristine. Ease of Use How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be? I had a larger Tascam Porta Studio before and I was not too thrilled with the overall results even after several years of use and practice. However, this little unit is easy to use and the instruction book (hooray, not a CD) was very easy to follow. The unit is very intuitive and if you did multi trak recordings before, this is a fairly simple unit and has an easy learning curve. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? Best feature, actually, is the well designed and easy to follow instruction manual. The unit itself is a good quality piece and everything works as it should. With a piece of gear like this, the hardest thing to do is learn how to use it properly, so I have to say that the easy to follow instruction book is the best feature. I would like to have had more than 2 inputs for mics, but with a good external mixer, it really is not an issue. Would be more of an issue if we were recording more than 2 tracs at one time, such as a live gig, but again with a mixing board, not a big deal. Sound How is the tone? The sound is pristine and exactly as we sent it from our mixer to the recorder. The ability to tweek the sound even more during final mixdown is a definite plus. The CD that can be burned right in the unit comes out perfect. What you hear in the final mix is exactly what you hear on the finished CD. Follow the instruction manual, practice with it and you can make near studio quality recordings in your living room. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Only had it a few days, but my other Tascam unit was indestructible with proper care. I expect this is the same.
I STAY UP HOURS A DAY USING THIS FUN THING

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? tascam is good, always has been. this is a LONG way from the old cassette 4 tracks. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? lots of features, but it is missing some other things that would have been nice. more onboard effects and some type of drum machine would have been great. Also would be nice if when usb connected, it got it's power from the computer. it would have been dynamite were the screen bigger and with on screen touch controls! Ease of Use How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be? as with any of these types of small multitrack recorders, there is a learning curve. But, i was able to get started and made my first song from start to finished master in about 3 hours. Sound How is the tone? In the end, it's all about the sound, isn't it? This is crystal clear, lots of headroom, great mixdown and mastering features. To be honest, it's fantastic. I downloaded a free stereo drum track, put it in a file, transferred the file to an sd card, put the sd card in the machine, uploaded that to channels 7 and 8. laid bass on channel 6, stereo guitar on 3 and 4, vocals on 1 and 2. Not a SINGLE piece of interference, not a 'pop' no distortion, no degredation, no 'funny' sounding passages, etc. simply wonderfully clean. when done, i burned it to a cd for my car, i put it into i tunes, via usb, i put it into e mails to send to friends, on the i pod, etc. Each step was fairly easy and intuitive. others complain about interfaces to computers etc. i'm not there yet, i'm old school, i want real faders and buttons.. let's face it, it's really just a tool to put down ideas, this has the sound quality for any use, but it might not have all that one would want. Reliability How has it stood up over time? time will tell General Your general opinion of this product. well made, fairly heavy for it's size. well laid out, however, the manual could be easier to navigate. The in screen menus, cut and paste etc. takes a while to understand.
