What is your overall opinion of this product?
If you want to get away from recording with a computer and all the headaches that come from commuter based recording then this is the unit you want. While a beginner could use this without too much of a learning curve, a more experienced user can really make some great music. This will do all the important functions that any DAW can do, and this does it easier. You never have to worry about buffer size, latency issues, drives, installing and reinstalling, viruses, malware, hackers, and you won't have to use the silly mouse to make changes, there are actual buttons, knobs and faders that you can feel and use. While it may be limiting in some features, such as effects, if you understand how to record, and what you are doing, you can do anything you would on any computer, you just have to think differently. You may have to re-track and do parallel processing, or think ahead in the whole process and print your sounds instead of thinking in terms of plugins. But with some experience and creativity you can make amazing music with no more effort than using a computer, and with less headaches for sure. The thing that in my mind really sets this unit apart from most computer set ups are the converters, they are really good and far superior to what you are able to get for the same price, and you get 8 high quality pre-amp ins. The unit has multi band compression in the mastering section, and can be used as a complete stand alone studio. You would not need anything but your sound source, a microphone, and this unit. However with the effects send, and the ability to easily transfer wave files back and forth to and from a computer you have vast options for editing, mixing and mastering. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is starting off on multi track recording, or anyone who wants to get away from the headache that is computer based recording. This unit could fit nicely into any home or semi pro studio.
