Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
This amp is built like a tank... heavy duty plywood cabinet, metal corners, the soldering is among the most solid I've seen mass produced (or not mass produced for that matter). The speaker is beastly, sounds great low or cranked up.
How has it stood up over time?
Just got it 2 days ago, but barring any unforeseen trips down the stairs (the fast way) I can't imagine this amp not lasting.
Your general opinion of this product.
Cleans on this amp compare with any Vox I've played over the years. They're bright and chimey, and once you put the boost on they break up into a beautiful bluesy crunch. The Ultra channel could easily cover AC/DC, The Who, etc... not ready for metal distortion, but man-o-man does this amp love pedals... so really a non issue, definitely not gonna take a star off for it. Also, this am comes WITH a 1 button foot switch (Fender style 1 button, compatible with the Mustang amps)... can't beat that.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Not so much playability, but I have to say it is awesome to pick up an all tube amp for less than $350 (happy 25th AMS) that sounds this good. This amp is definitely worth every penny at full price, and even better on sale.
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Ultra channel sounds a touch darker/heavier/more bass than the clean channel, but A) it could be just me, and B)... it's supposed to in my humble opinion.
How did the stain or paint job look?
On top of all the goodies I already mentioned... the Special 6 Ultra is dead sexy. All the piping is white like it's supposed to be, apart from a couple MINOR scratches on the tolex (I mean minor to the point I couldn't photograph them) this was 100%.
How was the action out of the box?
